  • Description

Hi! My name is Valeria (Vy, to save your breath). I’m a 25-year-old student from Italy, currently based in the chilly-yet-charming city of Hamburg. Over the past years, I have lived and worked in different countries, often in rural or peripheral settings. These experiences have brought me into close contact with people, land, and everyday forms of cooperation that have deeply shaped the way I try to move through the world.

Coming from an interdisciplinary background, I graduated in Politics, International Relations, and Economics, and I'm now continuing my studies in Anthropology and Ecology. What drew me perhaps most strongly to anthropology was its discipline of attention: the effort to observe without rushing to conclusions, to understand how people make sense of their lives, organize care, and endure uncertainty under different historical and material conditions. It has taught me to be cautious of easy explanations, and to stay close to lived experience rather than theories about it.

Ecology, for me, is inseparable from this inquiry. I am interested in how human systems are embedded within ecological systems, how disruptions in one inevitably reverberate through the other. More than a field of study, ecology has become a way of noticing limits, delays, and unintended consequences. It has taught me the importance of restraint as much as of action, and the value of coherence between how I live, think, and intervene. I’m especially drawn to forms of learning that are shared: working together, observing carefully, exchanging questions, and slowly building understanding in common.

My experience includes teaching languages (supported by a TEFL certification), contributing to educational and sustainability programs, and working with asylum seekers and immigrant communities. I deeply value work that starts from the ground up: listening before acting, staying long enough for trust to emerge, and sharing without imposing.

I hope to continue learning, contribute to the best of my abilities, and walk alongside others in their own paths (wherever they may be headed!)

  • More details about your skills

My background is in pedagogy and social work, where I have worked across different age groups and contexts: supporting children and adolescents through educational and counseling settings, adults through vocational and language training, as well as contributing as a counselor within rehabilitation programs. Alongside this, I have been involved in cultural mediation, offering support in refugee shelters.

These experiences have given me a deep appreciation of adaptability and the importance of human exchange, and have shown me how much meaningful work depends on listening, feedback, and learning in real time

  • What else ...

In my free time, I immerse myself in music and dancing, with a particular love for folk music. One of my dreams is to learn to play a string instrument, and hopefully pick up new handicraft skills (this one is as much a desperate need as a joyful desire).

I deeply enjoy being in nature, and often go on solo hikes, whether it’s around mountains or any old dirt path.

Above all, I welcome any opportunity to learn something new, even if it means stumbling a bit (and making a fool of myself) in the process.
