  • Description

    My husband David and I will be spending 2025 doing Workaway and working remotely as digital nomads. We were Airbnb hosts for many years and loved meeting visitors from all over the world, so the idea of learning about other cultures, while also living IN that country and WITH people from that country sounds like a fantastic idea to both of us.

    We are both English, but I grew up in Belgium and USA and we both lived in Australia and Singapore. Our children were born on 3 different continents!

    We are interested in the following regions of the countries listed;

    January Morocco
    February,March, April; Spain FULLY BOOKED
    May & June: NOT AVAILABLE
    July & August: NOT AVAILABLE
    September to December: not fully nailed down yet! Italy? Albania? France? Portugal?

    I work as an intercultural coach and trainer and my husband works in change management. We have been together nearly 40 years, so inevitably we share many of the same interests!
    I speak English, French, Spanish and German in that order… native English, good French, intermediate Spanish and tourist German. David can understand often, but not reply much...
    We both enjoy lots of outdoor activities, especially riding bikes (both) & horses (me), and hiking. I always dreamed of marrying a farmer and David's ambition was to be a park ranger; we didn't do either of those things, but we hope that Workaway will give us a taste of that life. We really see it an an opportunity to live a different life for a while - maybe even forever!

    I enjoy preparing and cooking food - and of course eating it! - and look forward to sharing and learning new recipes and techniques with our hosts. I’m also really hoping to learn some new skills in this area, like how to preserve fruit, make cheese or brew beer. I already bake my own bread and make my own protein bars 😊

  • More details about your skills

    We are both fit and active 64 year olds but we ARE 64 and realistically our bodies will not thank us if we have to spend hours on the same task! We will work hard, but prefer to work where there are a range of daily tasks to do. We love most animals, but horses and dogs in particular. We have 3 grown up children and have spent many happy years bringing them up, creating a home, cooking, gardening (see photo of our garden in Oxford, which we created from a field!) and all that stuff, while also enjoying our respective careers. What this adds up to on the 'home' front is a lot of lived, practical experience in the kitchen and the garden and with babies, children and pets. My husband and I have had dogs for the last 30 years and I owned two horses for 11 years.
    On the work front, I am a qualified life coach and intercultural trainer and David has worked in communications for many years. We are used to working with all kinds of clients and have very good communication skills. We are both organised, don't need micro-managing and have decent computer skills.
    I speak good French and reasonable Spanish and am happy to teach English - I don't have teaching qualifications, but am an English Literature graduate.
    I worked with theatre companies and orchestras before becoming a coach and have volunteered on cattle and sheep stations in Australia, taught English in Mongolia, been a volunteer with Riding for the Disabled, worked in an orphanage in Thailand and taught reading in my local primary school.

  • What else ...

    We have been working hard at our careers for a long time and are excited to have a 'gap year' doing something completely different. I always wanted to marry a farmer, and David always dreamed of being a park ranger - we haven't done either of those things, but this is our chance to do a bit of that! We have travelled a lot, and always enjoyed meeting people from other cultures. On this 'gap year', we plan to visit only about 6 countries, so we can really learn about the culture. We are both very social and outgoing, love being outdoors (hiking and biking especially) but also love sharing family meals and sometimes playing silly games together. We are not 'on' all the time though - we both love reading and listening to music too and we both sing in choirs!
