Description
Hey there! My name is Emerald and I'm with my sister Kiki. We are two sisters from Colorado taking a gap year before going to college next fall. I plan going into Environmental Engineering and Kiki is still deciding, one of many reasons we are taking a gap year traveling around the US in our Honda Odyssey. We are super friendly and easy going girls. I obviously love nature and want to learn more about off-grid living and sustainable living. I love to cook and trying out new meals. I’m not going to say I’m an amazing cook but I can follow a recipe pretty well! I love plants and animals, so I would love the experience of working on a farm. I also have a little bit of experience with carpentry things, (e.g) accessorizing the van into a livable space. Kiki is very artsy and loves to get creative, i.e. crocheting, painting, drawing. She is also interested in learning more about gardening! We also have a little bit of experience doing workaway before this. My parents took us traveling in Europe and South America for a year. We may have only been 10/9 years old but it was one of the greatest learning experiences I've ever had. We believe traveling and having unique learning experiences like the ones you get from a workaway will not only be the time of our lives but make us so much more cultivated as people and give us skills that we will use for the rest of our lives. We are willing to cook, clean, garden, paint, and fix whatever you need. We may need some direction but are very adaptable girls and learn quickly.

More details about your skills
Renovation Experience - We've assisted our parents with multiple apartment and house renovations. We have experience with yard work, painting, sanding, and deep cleaning. We're not afraid to get our hands dirty!
Creativity - We both enjoy painting, crafting, decorating, and helping with creative projects (Kiki especially).
Household - We love to cook and trying new dishes, savory and sweet. Emerald loves to clean as well, she enjoys organizing and making things look nice.
Language - The both of us are fluent in both English and Dutch and have lots of experience traveling and adapting to local languages.
Outdoor Activity Enthusiasts - As Colorado natives, we're all about the outdoors. We have experience kayaking, mountain biking, and hiking, but we're especially confident skiers and snowboarders.
CPR and First Aid Certified - We both worked as lifeguards for several years so we are great to have around during an aquatic emergency.
Gardening - this fall we learned a lot about gardening/harvesting and what it means to grow all your own food. We now have a very close relationship with onions, carrots, potatoes, peppers, and worms. We can't wait for the spring season so we can learn more about the beginning process.

What else ...
We're both big readers! So if you're in need of book recommendations, you know who to ask. Kiki also enjoys crocheting, she will take requests if you ask nicely. We're also avid card players so be prepared to bring out the deck after dinner.
Emerald loves to bake, especially yummy pies.
Our favorites places to haunt are thrift stores, to see the treasures they hold, and coffee shops, to sit with a nice cup of coffee while chatting, people watching, and reading a good book.
Traveling around the US and Canada has been an amazing learning experience and we can't wait to see more of the world!
