Hey there! My name is Emerald Buckley. I am a 19 year old Coloradan taking a gap year before going to college next fall. I plan on going into Environmental Engineering or Civil Engineering. I obviously love nature and want to learn more about off-grid living and sustainable living. I love to cook and trying out new meals. I’m not going to say I’m an amazing cook but I can follow a recipe pretty well! I love plants, animals, and kids, so I would love the experience of working on a farm with a nice loving family. I also have a little bit of experience with DIY and carpentry things, (e.g) renovating a van into a livable space, flooring, fencing, painting. I am the son my dad never had and have learned to be pretty handy. I also have previous work away experience, I traveled through Canada in 2025, and in 2019 I traveled with my family for an entire year doing work away's in Europe and South America. I would love to cook, clean, garden, paint, and fix whatever you need. I am very good at listening to instructions and am a fast learner who can adapt quickly.

Renovation Experience - Assisting my parents with multiple apartment and house renovations. Experience with yard work, painting, sanding, and deep cleaning. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty!
Creativity - I enjoy painting, crafting, decorating, and helping with creative projects.
Household - I love to cook and trying new dishes, savory and sweet. (I make pretty good apple pie) I love to clean as well, I always enjoy organizing and making things look nice.
Language - fluent in both English and Dutch and have lots of experience traveling and adapting to local languages. I am currently learning Spanish and have a basic understanding of it, but would love to learn more.
Outdoor Activity Enthusiasts - As a Colorado native, I'm all about the outdoors. I have lots of experience kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, skiing, and snowboarding.
CPR and First Aid Certified - I have worked as a lifeguard for several years so we are great to have around during an aquatic emergency.
Hospitality/Toursim - I would call myself a professional waitress and am very good at handling multiple tasks, giving great customer service and having an overall friendly persona.
Gardening - this fall I learned a lot about gardening/harvesting and what it means to grow all your own food. I now have a very close relationship with onions, carrots, potatoes, peppers, and worms. We can't wait for the spring season so we can learn more about the beginning process.
Babysitting/nanny - I have plenty experience babysitting kids in my local area and now I can also add au pair to my resume as I just finished working as an au pair with a super sweeet family for 2 months teaching English to some wonderful kids.

My two favorite things are to meet new people and learn new things.
I'm a big reader! So if you're in need of book recommendations, you know who to ask. I'm also an avid card player so be prepared to bring out the deck after dinner.
My favorite thing to bake is pie!
My favorites places to relax are thrift stores, to see the treasures they hold, and coffee shops, to sit with a nice cup of coffee while chatting, people watching, and reading a good book.
Traveling around the US and Canada has been an amazing learning experience and I can't wait to see more of the world!
Oh and I absolutely love animals! I have two cats named Icky and Killer. I miss them so much every time I travel so I always love it when I stay with workawayers who have pets.
