Description
Hi there!
We’re Tom and Terry, both 32 and from Australia. We’ve just left our jobs (Tom as a senior marketing manager, and myself as a neuroscientist) to move to Europe in search of adventure, new experiences and connections with all of the beautiful people along the way.
We’re outdoorsy and active—running, hiking, and surfing are our happy places—and we love getting involved in nature wherever we go. We're both big animal lovers too, and we’d be stoked to help out with pets or farm animals. I (Terry) have spent 2 years working as a vet assistant, and I'm also really passionate about making change to save our environment.
We’re very keen to try new things and learn new skills, perspectives and ways of life, whatever that looks like. For us, Workaway is about diving into local life, meeting new people, and contributing wherever we can. We both have extensive hospitality experience (Tom ~4yrs, Terry ~10yrs) across bars, pubs, restaurants.
I (Terry) have experience working with and teaching kids; I spent 3 months in Mauritius raising awareness in schools and institutions about HIV and prevention, and I've done placements at Ronald McDonald House Charity (associated with Westmead Children's Hospital in Sydney) where I designed and executed teaching programs for sick children.
I also speak somewhat decent French - I studied it all through high school and uni, and did exchange during school where I lived with a French family for 3 months.
We are both very outdoorsy and have a fair amount of outdoors experience. We've done overnight hikes with all our food + tents etc on our backs.
Tom is also an excellent chef, his specialty is Fijian curries!
We are both keen to try our hand at new skills and learn as much as we can!
