Description
Hello! I'm Tara, an 18 year old Scottish girl looking to explore Spain this spring! My goals are to improve my Spanish and meet new people, whilst working hard and gaining experiences and skills.

About Me (things I love) :
Language- I enjoy attempting to learn other peoples beautiful languages, and am fascinated by the diversity and complexity of language in general! I studied Spanish in high-school, but am far from fluent and would love to improve. I would also be more than happy to help share my language, English.

Nature- I grew up surrounded by the Scottish countryside, and among nature is where I feel most at home. I love mother nature and all of her children :) Later this year I will start studying Biology at university, with a focus on Zoology. I would love to gain some experience working with animals, and permaculture. Helping to improve our environment is incredibly important to me.

Art- Aside from Biology, Art was my best subject in school. I enjoy drawing, painting and sculpting. I love to create and consume art in many forms. Of course, I love listening to music, (especially live music).

Travelling- In the past year I have travelled to various countries, and recently spent a month in Portugal. I love the excitement of experiencing new cultures and languages, and meeting people from around the world! When I'm not travelling, Im at home spending time with my family and friends, and working. For the past three years ive been happily employed working as a waitress at a fish restaurant in my seaside town. There I work hard for atleast a few days every week, and enjoy serving and chatting to customers, who visit from all around the world!

Food/Cooking- Food is one of the best and most important things about life (personally). I enjoy cooking and would be happy to cook for others. I prefer not to eat a lot of meat but am especially flexible when travelling, so am really more of an omnivore than a vegetarian. I will try most things, except I dont like cheese ( I know, I'm sorry) .

Tara was a very capable and thoughtful volunteer helping move firewood uphill from the forest, as well as helping prepare a new plot for this year’s squash harvest.
She was very amiable and interested in the aims of the project and equally had interesting views and knowledge of other world affairs.

This was my first WorkAway experience, and I can happily say that it was a great one! A big thank you to Emma and Barney, and Abel, Rebeka and Kiran!!

Arriving off the bus to the tiny nearby town, we were greeted by the lovely Emma, who walked us there—which fortunately for me with my bags was not very far. Such a beautiful place to walk into!… read more Thank you to Barney for giving us an informational tour of the land, meeting me (with Sadie) from the bus stop in Fornelos when I made my escape to Vigo, giving very detailed directions, and generally being great. All the best! Now a bit of a description for those interested, partly from a section of my journal that I wrote on the second day, ;)

Staying here feels somewhat like being transported to another time, in a place that feels both separated from “reality” and yet incredibly connected, through immersion in the natural surroundings. Except of course “ surroundings “ is the wrong word since it feels here that we are more a part of nature than apart from it. Haha. It’s a place that (at least when it's not raining) I feel that I can spend all day outside—working, eating, reading, swimming— and still want to sit outside of the house to be there, amongst the verdant jungle of a landscape, for the last of the daylight!
The work we did was physically difficult, and I felt it definitely served as a sufficient workout for the day. But a day's work is finished within a few hours, and before lunch! Then the rest of the day is yours to enjoy.
Speaking of lunch,(most often cooked by Abel and Rebeka, but Emma is also a great cook!) this was something I looked forward to every day. Every day at 2.30 we had the pleasure of eating a really nice vegan lunch ,of which I would usually eat mountains of. I definitely didn't chew 50 times. Also an important mention here is Barney's added-sugar-free vegan baking, yum!
Other highlights included:
-Kiran’s post-lunch concerts/shows! As someone who is interested in “the arts” I can safely say I have never witnessed any performances quite like the ones Kiran invented! Bravo! Abel makes a great magician's assistant, of course. To Kiran : Tu dragón era muy guay y me encantaron los espectáculos. ¡Gracias por enseñarnos los nombres de los insectos! sigue siendo genial :D
-Swimming in the river. There is a lovely river with natural pools and small waterfalls, within easy walking distance. I was lucky enough to be volunteering with the wonderful Sadie, and we took every good-weather opportunity to go and swim in the river together! (and get coffee or visit the local shop)
-lunch, and dinner outside with a sunset

Overall, I would definitely recommend volunteering here! Everyone here is really nice, and great to chat to. You will likely end the work days feeling tired, but in a good way (just as long as you don't have an issue with setting pinecone fires).
