Description
Hi, I’m Tally - an artist based in Glasgow. I’m currently working with the install/invigilation team at the Royal Scottish Academy, and I’m looking for a summer Workaway (around 4–6 weeks) to meet new people, learn practical skills, and shake things up a bit. I’ve volunteered before (including teaching English in India), lived abroad as an au pair in Brussels, and I have a 120‑hour TEFL qualification. I love being outdoors and my work is rooted in sustainable relationships with land, so I’m especially drawn to projects involving gardening, building, or community living.

I have experience and a qualification in teaching English as a Foreign Language, so if this is something that may interest a host I would be willing to discuss my skills in this area. I also have an intermediate understanding of French (having studied in school and lived in Brussels with a Frecnh family for a year). Currently, as I have not practiced in several years, my level is fairly low, but with some quick practice I am sure I could get back up to speed again. -

More details about your skills
I’m a Glasgow-based artist (first-class Painting & Printmaking graduate) with a solid mix of creative and hands-on experience. I currently work with exhibition install/invigilation at the Royal Scottish Academy, and I’m used to the physical side of gallery work too (heavy lifting, careful handling, and supporting installs), as well as working in busy public-facing environments. I’ve volunteered abroad before — including seven months of full-time teaching English in India — and I have a 120-hour TEFL qualification. I also lived abroad for a year as an au pair in Brussels. I’m adaptable, friendly, and used to pitching in wherever needed, including in collaborative arts environments where everyone helps make things happen (setting up events, mucking in, and getting stuck into the practical jobs). I’ve got experience with gardening, decorating/painting, and assisting on building projects. I also have skills in woodwork and metalwork from art school, as well as helping out on building sites and self-build projects over the years (my dad is an architect), which means I’m confident working with 3D making and machinery safely once I’ve had initial instruction.

What else ...
I’m very outdoorsy and love spending time in nature, with a strong interest in sustainable living and climate action, especially where the arts connect to these themes. I grew up partly on a small island off the west coast of Scotland, which has really shaped my outlook: I understand how small communities work, I get on with people of all ages, and I enjoy rural living, including the practical and social realities that come with it. At the same time, I also love city life. Glasgow’s vibrant arts scene and its connections across Europe suit me well, and I’m happiest getting around by bike. I’m an animal lover, I’ve travelled widely across Europe, and I really enjoy meeting new people, learning new skills, and picking up fresh perspectives. I’m also polite and a good guest (I like to think!).
