  • Description

Hi! My name is Shea. I am a writer looking to experience as much as I can of the world. I am interested in recapturing the essence of analog days, recording traditional and rural crafts, and writing of lost moments in time, as well as writing about topics regarding environment, medieval history, and nature. I am the happiest person in the world when I'm on the back of a horse or out on a hike or backpacking in beautiful landscapes--or writing in a quiet library!

I'm keen to get out and see more of the world, and in particular to meet new people and make new friends, as well as have more hands-on experiences working on farms, learning new skills, and experiencing other cultures. My life passion is writing so I'd love to work on a non-fiction book project about traditional crafts while I travel, as well as various fiction projects I have in the works. I've found most of the best details in books come from real life!

I am a quiet person at first, but once I get to know someone and I am comfortable I open up and am willing to try most anything! It just might take a little while to get there. I'm hoping to spend the next 2 years or so, for the duration of my graduate visa, to see as much of the UK as possible.

  • More details about your skills

Animals: I am comfortable working with sheep, dairy goats, and beef cattle, though there are some things I've never done which I'd love to learn (shearing sheep or milking cows). I can milk dairy goats and know how to monitor animal health, trim hooves, clean pens, etc. I also grew up with horses and so am very comfortable around them.

Gardening: I can propagate, start veggies from seeds, weed, harvest, water, etc., pretty much anything garden related I can do, less experience with flowers but more with fruit and veggies. I also have a good understanding of sustainability, organic practices, and natural living methods, though most of those are in theory and I haven't put into practice. I know there's a lot more for me to learn in this area and would love to gain more experience here, and am very willing to put my hand to it. Would also be interested in learning beekeeping.

Childcare: I've not done a lot of childcare in the past but do like kids and would love to spend more time around them, as I would like to write children's books someday.

Other: I am a semi-professional photographer, though haven't done much of that in a while and have gone more towards film photography recently. I can do general sewing and mending, I write fiction and non-fiction, basic cooking and baking skills, a little outdoor/camping/backpacking knowledge. Eager to learn new skills as well!

  • What else ...

I have dabbled in things like natural dyeing and paper-making and experienced a form of American homesteading but would like to learn farming methods from other parts of the world and potentially live off grid at some point, and bring these skills back to California to put to use there.

I am trying to set myself up to spent the next months traveling and meeting people, having new experiences, and honing my writing as well as hands-on skills with various crafts. I have a 2 year UK graduate visa with no work restrictions so there is the possibility of longer-term stays if it's the right fit.

I also love movies, books, baking bread, embroidery, games, music, and so much more. Thanks for reading my profile and I hope to see you soon!
