  • Description

Hi everyone, I'm Rishie and I'm a passionate explorer and traveller. My enthusiasm for nature, exploration, and meeting new people comes from the cultural diversity experienced in my childhood. I spent most of my younger life traveling around! In April, I graduated from university with a degree in honours political science. I am planning to travel the world for the next few years. My first stop was in the remote northwest of Canada, where I spent the summer working at a tourist attraction. I am currently in Palmela, Portugal, volunteering at a workaway site.

More details about my language interests
I am interested in learning any language! I find them very captivating. Although in particular, I wish to advance my rudimentary French skills, and learn Italian and Russian from scratch. I am happy to teach English - I am a native speaker and can read and write at an advanced level. In addition, although I cannot read or write Hindi and Marathi, I am happy to teach speech (in which I am fairly fluent)

  • More details about your skills

I have worked and volunteered in several different jobs in the last few years; listed below are some of my strongest skills:

    1. Customer service/ Connecting with new people: Throughout my life, I have been forced to meet so many new people and adapt to so many new environments. As a result of this, it comes naturally to me to connect with people from different parts of the world. I thoroughly enjoy truly listening to people and understanding their viewpoints/ experiences. Hence, I find it easy to talk to customers and new people. This past summer, I worked at Wild Adventure Yukon, a tourist attraction in the Yukon, Canada. As a customer service representative here, I interacted with guests from all around the world. This experience further enhanced my engagement and problem solving skills with an international customer base. Also, I spent the summer of 2024 working at Treetop Trekking, which is rate as one of Ontario's top tourist destinations. The location was a high ropes course, where a large portion of the job was customer interaction. At this job, I received the employee of the month award in August 2024 as a result of my strong customer service skills.

    2. An ability to learn and adapt quickly: I have worked 5 very different jobs in the last 4 years while also being in university. At each of these jobs, I have flourished and picked up new skills immediately. In addition to this, moving to Canada at 15 and then out to Alberta and the Yukon by myself taught me how to adapt to my surroundings and fit in right away. I have been on the move for essentially my whole life - adapting to new environments is second nature!

    3. Prowess working with kids: I have worked at 2 camps - one in Alberta and one in Ontario. Some responsibilities I undertook were: supervising a cabin overnight with up to 20 boys, teaching children to ride a bike for the first time, and leading a group of up to 10 children through camp activities every week. Throughout this time, I developed a strong ability to connect with children. I find spending time with them refreshing, enjoyable, and comforting.

    4. Standard First Aid/ CPR-C: I obtained this certification from Red Cross Canada.

    5. High ropes/ rock climbing/ harnessing: I have a passion for rock climbing and high ropes climbing. I spent the summer of 2024 working at Treetop Trekking, one of Ontario's most popular tourist attractions. In my time there, I picked up some skills concerning harnessing, climbing, and zip lining.

  • What else ...

I have a profound passion for history, philosophy, and politics. I have a degree in political philosophy/science so I will gladly chat about these topics for hours on end. I also love learning more about them - so I will listen attentively while you share your thoughts/ experiences. I also love books - in particular the classics (Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Camus, etc.). If you have a library, I will spend a lot of time there!

Sports is another large part of my life. Here is a list of the sports I play: soccer (football), rock climbing, squash, cricket, table tennis, volleyball, water polo.
