Richard:
Hey! I’m Richard, 28, from Australia with family roots in the Philippines. I’ve worked in social work for five years in Australia, and while I’m passionate about supporting others, travelling has become an exciting new way for me to learn, connect, and grow. I’ll be travelling with my girlfriend Jade, who’s from France. We’re both excited to explore the world in a more meaningful way—by meeting people, learning new skills, and being part of everyday life in the places we visit.
What draws me to Workaway is the chance to experience places through the eyes of locals, not just as a tourist. I love sharing stories, lending a hand, and learning skills I wouldn’t normally come across—whether that’s helping on a farm, in a kitchen, or with a community project. I recently volunteered at a hostel in Malaysia, where I helped organise social activities, welcomed guests, and supported daily routines. It reminded me how much I enjoy being part of a shared space and connecting with others.
After balancing work with short travels, I’m now looking forward to slowing down and staying longer in the places I visit. Friends describe me as happy, outgoing, and easy to get along with. I’m usually the one making sure everyone feels included and looked after. I’m open-minded and enjoy connecting with people from all walks of life—something my background in social work has helped me carry into travel.
I’m passionate about community-building and believe that spending time in local communities is a powerful way to exchange knowledge and grow. I grew up between cultures—grounded in Australian life, but shaped by the warmth and hospitality of my Filipino heritage—which taught me to be adaptable, appreciate diversity, and always make others feel welcome.
Outside of volunteering, I love being active and outdoors—especially sports like AFL, Muay Thai, and MMA. Music is a big part of my life—I play guitar and drums, and love joining in when the moment’s right. I also speak English and Tagalog and enjoy language exchange whenever the opportunity comes up.
I’m open to all kinds of settings—rural, remote, quiet—and I’m looking forward to sharing these experiences with Jade.
Jade:
Hi! I’m Jade Lassauvetat, 29 years old, from a small town called Millau in the south of France. For the past seven years, I’ve worked as a nurse, balancing a career I care deeply about with a love for discovering new places. Travel has always been more than just a hobby for me—it’s a way to learn, meet people, and experience life from different perspectives. After years of fitting travel into short breaks, I’m now excited to slow down and truly immerse myself in the places I visit, not just pass through. Workaway feels like the perfect opportunity to contribute in meaningful ways, learn new skills, and connect with others on a deeper level.
I enjoy all kinds of travel, from quiet time in nature to being involved in the everyday life of a local community, and I like to stay open-minded about new experiences. Friends would describe me as funny, organised, calm, positive, hard-working, and always open to new ideas. In my free time, I love reading, gardening, and looking after animals—they help me slow down and enjoy the small things. I also stay active through hiking and cooking, and I like being creative whenever I can. I feel most at home when I’m part of a community, whether that’s through sharing meals, working together, or simply spending time outdoors. One thing I’ve come to appreciate through travel is that the most meaningful connections often come from simple, shared moments.
We’re excited to share these experiences together while contributing in our own ways.Interests

As a couple, we both have a deep appreciation for languages and the way they connect people across cultures. We speak fluent English, and one of us also speaks Tagalog while the other is fluent in French. We love sharing our languages—whether it’s through friendly conversation, teaching useful phrases, or exploring the cultural context behind the words. We’re also both really interested in learning other languages. We believe every new word learned is a step closer to understanding another way of life, and we enjoy picking up local phrases wherever we go. Whether it’s practicing with native speakers or joining in language exchanges, we’re always up for the challenge and fun of learning something new. When it comes to helping others, we’re patient, approachable, and happy to adapt to different learning styles or levels—whether someone’s trying to improve their English, get started with Tagalog or French, or just have a cultural chat. For us, language is more than communication—it’s about connection, shared experience, and mutual growth. Volunteering gives us a beautiful opportunity to both share and learn, and that’s something we truly value.Skills and knowledge we'd like to share or learn

Richard:
I have a background in social work, which has given me strong communication skills, adaptability, and a real passion for helping others. Over the years, I’ve developed a calm, people-focused approach and enjoy contributing in group environments where everyone plays a part.
I’m fluent in English and Tagalog and enjoy supporting language or cultural exchange in casual, conversational ways. I’m confident with day-to-day tasks like cooking, cleaning, and organising shared spaces, and I take pride in creating a calm, welcoming environment.
Recently, I volunteered at a hostel in Malaysia where I helped with social activities, welcomed guests, and provided local tips. I’ve also helped run group dinners and small events, which I really enjoy for the energy, connection, and teamwork they bring. I’m comfortable pitching in with general housekeeping, food prep, childcare, or assisting with setup and cleanup for events.
On the creative side, I love music—I play both guitar and drums—and I’m happy to contribute through music, taking photos, or helping with social media where useful.
Even if a task is new to me, I’m always willing to give it a go and learn along the way. I’m dependable, easy to work with, and always bring a positive, hands-on attitude to whatever’s needed.
Jade:
My background in nursing has helped me develop strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, organisational, and leadership skills, along with a deep sense of ethical and cultural awareness. It’s also taught me how to care for others, stay calm in busy situations, and work well as part of a team—qualities I carry into daily life and volunteering.
I’m confident helping with everyday tasks like cleaning, organising, cooking, working with animals, painting, basic DIY, and gardening. I have a pet cat named Lily who I love and care for, and I also have formal experience volunteering at a dog shelter, where I helped look after and care for the dogs. I speak both French and English fluently, and I also know a little Korean. Creatively, I’m interested in photography and would love to develop that more while travelling. I especially enjoy caring for animals, helping in the garden, and creating a welcoming space for others. I’d also love to learn about farm work or working behind a bar. I’m very open to learning by doing and always ready to try something new, even if I’ve never done it before.Age

What else ...
Richard:
I’m someone who’s very mindful of shared spaces and how my presence affects the people around me. I like to help out wherever I can—whether that means tidying up, jumping into a task, or simply bringing calm, positive energy into the space. I enjoy contributing to the overall vibe of a group or household and naturally look out for others, noticing what needs to be done and doing my part without needing to be asked.
I try to bring a team-first mindset wherever I go. I enjoy supporting the people around me, keeping things fun when the moment calls for it, and helping create an environment where everyone feels comfortable and included. Whether it’s starting the music at a group dinner or quietly getting the dishes done after a busy day, I enjoy doing the little things that make people feel supported.
I really value the opportunity to learn from others, grow through experience, and give back along the way. Whether I’m using the skills I already have or building new ones, I’m always grateful to be part of something meaningful—and to contribute in a way that’s helpful, respectful, and real. These experiences remind me how meaningful it is to be part of something bigger than myself, to contribute with care, and to learn through shared effort.
Jade:
I aim to make sure everyone feels welcome, comfortable, and supported. I enjoy helping others settle in—whether that’s getting familiar with the hostel or learning about the local area—and naturally look out for those around me. Taking care of shared spaces is something I value, and I help keep things clean and tidy for everyone. If something needs to be done, whether it’s cleaning up or offering help, I’m happy to step in without being asked.
People often describe me as bringing a calm, positive, and gentle energy to group settings. I try to be observant and supportive, especially when others might need a hand. Respect, open communication, empathy, and shared responsibility are all important to me when living and working with others. Through travelling and volunteering, I’ve learned that small actions matter, slowing down makes experiences more meaningful, and connections grow from simple moments.
I approach new situations with an open mind and a willingness to adapt. Little gestures like making tea, sharing a meal, or checking in with others are things I naturally enjoy doing to help people feel at ease. I feel truly grateful for every opportunity to be welcomed into someone’s space, to contribute thoughtfully, and to grow through shared experiences. Some more information
