Description
Hey! 👋🏻 I'm Rebecca, I’m 31 and I’m a clinical psychologist from London, UK.
Travel has always been a big part of mine and my family's life but my 20s was dedicated towards studying and working to become a psychologist which didn't give me the time for trips that were very long or far away. I finished my doctorate at the end of 2025 and I knew I wanted to travel before beginning the next stage of my career because if not now, then when?! So at the end of 2025, I spent two months solo travelling Vietnam and Thailand and loved it but it barely scratched the itch. I then left my job to spend at least a year travelling and started my journey in May 2026. I'm currently in Southeast Asia and am thinking of also going to South America at some point.
Being a psychologist and someone of mixed heritage (half Finnish, half Iraqi) has made me naturally curious about people and different ways of living. I value meaningful and honest conversations, learning about local customs, and understanding the little cultural differences that make each place unique.
Outside of work, I'm passionate about health and wellbeing and try to live an active but balanced lifestyle. I love running and recently ran my first marathon in Prague, scuba diving, hiking, camping, watching films (pretty much any genre), yoga, markets, finding great cafés and local food spots, and generally spending as much time outdoors as I can.
I actually discovered Workaway by chance after meeting someone who hosted. Hearing about it made me realise that's exactly the kind of travel I'm looking for. I want to slow down, explore beyond the tourist hotspots, take recommendations from locals and discover hidden gems. Most of all, I'm hoping to build genuine friendships with likeminded travellers and hosts, to learn from each other and to create experiences that I'll always remember.
I'm new to Workaway but I'm reliable, easy-going, enjoy working with others, and I hope to leave every place a little better than I found it 😊 -

More details about your skills
I’m someone who learns by doing. I enjoy gaining new skills and I also like pushing myself outside of my comfort zone by throwing myself into the deep end!
I have experience of childcare and spent a year working as an au pair in Berlin for two children aged 8 and 2. While there I became fluent in German. I’ve sadly forgotten a lot of vocab now but I’m confident it would come back quickly with practice and I’d really enjoy the chance to use it again. I’m also the youngest of three sisters, so I'm familiar with how chaotic a household with multiple kids can be!
My dad is Iraqi but was born and grew up in India and so I spent a lot of time cooking Indian-Iraqi food with my grandma. Food was always something that brought our family together and I would love to bring this sense of connection to others too.
I’m very comfortable with simple living and hands-on work. My mum is Finnish and we have a cottage (built by my grandad) in Lapland with no electricity or running water where we spent many summers. Some of my favourite memories come from being there, living at a slower pace, helping out with endless DIY renovations like building a new sauna or boathouse, collecting water and firewood, fishing, blueberry picking and kayaking. I love camping and enjoy this way of living rather than seeing it as a challenge.
As a native English speaker I’m very happy to help with conversational English if it’s useful.
My job has made me used to working with people from all walks of life and I would describe myself as a good communicator, calm under pressure, organised and adaptable. I enjoy working/being with others but I’m equally comfortable doing my own thing and taking initiative.
Most of all, I hope to bring enthusiasm, kindness, curiosity, a good sense of humour, and a strong work ethic to wherever I stay. -
