Description
Hey,
My name is Lukas, currently living in Berlin! After a few years of traveling a lot and living in New Zealand for some time, I now settled in Berlin since last year.
I would describe myself as a open-minded and social person, who loves to meet new people. I’m very into sports and being active. I used to play football and ski a lot, and these days I’m mostly surfing and skating. In recent years I got into music production which became my main hobby at home. I also love playing chess.
I’m especially interested in helping out with DIY and building projects. I’ve spent the last 5 years working in construction and building, from festival stages to set building and different carpentry projects. I really enjoy working with my hands, learning new techniques, and figuring things out on the go. My long-term goal is to become a furniture maker, so I’m always keen to learn more about woodworking and building things properly (and beautifully). ! However, I am also open to help out with any other tasks and would love to learn more about gardening.
A few years ago, after I completed my university studies, I have used workaway already while I was traveling in Asia and New Zealand and loved it. I had an amazing time at all my hosts and really felt like I got to know their their culture and way of living! I have always prefered to explore a country by staying longer in one place to dig deeper into the culture and make closer connections to the people! So I am very keen to use Workaway again and share my skills and knowledge while learning a lot for myself as well!

More details about your skills
About seven years ago, after finishing my Master’s degree in economics, I discovered my passion for carpentry while travelling in South East Asia and New Zealand. My first experience was working on festivals and over the years I have been involved in a range of building projects, mainly with wood but also a bit of concrete construction. I still do a lot of stage building for music festivals but also done a few exhibition builds, and some furniture and boat building. I also spent several years as a founding member of a small start-up together with a friend, focusing on health food products. Last year, I decided to leave the start-up and focus on my passion for woodworking. Over the past months, I’ve worked for a set-building company in a workshop, but came to the conclusion that I see my future in more sustainable woodworking, so I am planning to get into furniture-making.
I also volunteered in a sustainable community in New Zealand and on other eco-focused projects across Asia. So I’m also very happy to get stuck into all kinds of hands-on tasks, from gardening and maintenance to general DIY projects.
