Description
Hello! My name is Nolan and I am seeking to learn as much as possible about the lifestyles and philosophies of the hosts that I stay with. My intention with using Workaway on my travels is to find opportunities to build deep connections and understanding of people who have experienced life very differently from me. I am a curious, open minded, and adaptable person who wants to step outside of his comfort zone in order to become a more wise, well rounded person.
I just recently graduated from university with a degree in philosophy, so I hope to provide good conversation and good listening to everybody who I meet on my travels. I have spent the last 3 years pursuing knowledge primarily through extensive reading and doing my own writing and hope to spend the next part of my life pursuing knowledge through direct experience. I am always eager to challenge the way that I live and think, so I am excited to experience any kind of lifestyle that hosts can provide me!
I have been working as a park ranger for the past three years, so most of my work experience is in doing outdoor manual labor. I am responsible for the upkeep of both the indoor facilities and nature of my park, so I have a wide variety of skills involving tools and machinery. I am very excited to learn from the hosts that I stay with, but I am hoping to provide a lot of value from my side with my skills and energetic mindset.
My other primary skill/passion is teaching sports, specifically to teenagers. I have years of coaching experience with volleyball (ages 10-20), and sufficient experience with sports like football, basketball and baseball to teach younger people. From this experience I feel very confident with teaching and leadership, and would be happy to explore teaching English to people in this age group! Other than playing volleyball, I like to do yoga and strength training in my free time. I am very experienced with physical training and enjoy teaching it, but I am relatively new to yoga and would be excited by any opportunity to learn more!
My primary area of philosophical/spiritual interest at the moment is anything that I have not experienced here in the northeastern United States. I have studied Buddhist, Hindu, Daoist and Islamic philosophy, but I believe direct experience is required for understanding. For this reason, I am currently looking for hosts in South Asia, South-East Asia and East Asia that will be happy to share their knowledge with me in exchange for hard work and a positive attitude!
Thank you for your consideration!

More details about your skills
I am most specialized in landscaping/gardening, but my base level knowledge of carpentry and building allows me to learn any related skills quickly. I am very healthy and in good shape, and I enjoy hard labor. I am happy to take on any work that is physically demanding.
I have been playing volleyball for 10 years, and have been coaching for 4 years. I am comfortable with all age groups and can teach all skill levels. Even outside of coaching, I value being a positive influence on young people. I am very patient and enjoy listening to young people and making them feel cared for.
My most important skill is my eagerness to learn. While I hope to use my current skills to create and teach beautiful things, I will always be ready to adapt to new situations!

What else ...
I enjoy both making deep connections with people and having time on my own to think. I like activities that involve exercise and teamwork. Sports are always a reliable way for me to make friends. I also like to hike and find beautiful places to meditate and write philosophy.
I am currently learning/practicing yoga, so I would love to explore this interest during my travels!
