Description
Hi, I'm Natasha!
I'm an easy-going Canadian/Polish 23 year old. I just finished my Neuroscience master's degree in Kraków, Poland. I'm now thinking about the next steps to take in my life.
Outside of school I’ve had a number of side jobs – I worked as a ski lift operator at a ski resort in Canada, I was a delivery biker, I worked as kitchen help at an amazing sushi bar in Krakow, and most recently as a barwoman/kitchen help at a Japanese restaurant in the Netherlands. As a native English speaker I also did some English tutoring in Poland, and some Polish to English translation work. I love reading fiction and writing, and one of the careers I’m considering for myself in the future is as a scientific journalist or novelist. Although my restaurant jobs didn’t involve too much cooking, I absolutely love to make food. I’m very into healthy eating and know a thing or two about it because of my biology background. Another future career I’m interested in is as a personal training, because I feel that have a lot of knowledge about this and could really help people. I’ve always loved hiking, but over the last two years I absolutely fell in love with cycling. I played badminton for my university team, I did weightlifting for many years, and I got into running not long before I started getting knee problems. I had knee surgery at the end of August, and although I’ve had to temporarily say goodbye to sports, my recovery is going much faster than I expected, I’m able to walk, and by the time I’ll be setting out on my next workaway experience, I should be back to normal outside of being able to do my usual sports, or heavy lifting.
Why am I looking for a Workaway host? I feel apprehensive about starting a career at the moment, because I’m not sure about what that might be and I don’t want to be a person that engages in anything out of a need to conform to societal standards – despite the uncertainty, the loudest voices within me tell me to take advantage of my youth and lack of real responsibilities, see the world and try to connect deeply to all of its beauty. Pursuing school endlessly has most definitely taught me most of what I know, but perhaps also taken something very important away, which I’d like to rediscover: the ability to deeply appreciate the current moment, to live joyfully and at peace without always contemplating how to progress. I want to give my time and devotion fully, unconditionally to people around me, because I wholeheartedly believe that connecting with people is the only thing that truly matters in the world. I want to work on patience. I know that there is no place that I’m in a hurry to get to, that there’s no where I need to arrive – but I need to learn to feel that, to live as though it’s true.
I would love to experience something new. I’ve travelled a quite a bit around Europe during my free time, and even spent the last year of university on exchange in the Netherlands, but this has all felt quite comfortable, quite expected. I want to take advantage of the energy and curiosity that I still have within me to explore and open my mind.Interests
