  • Description

    Hi!
My name is Mutlu and I am a freshly baked Social Worker from Germany. I've been traveling for the past few months, sometimes volunteering and sometimes just doing my own thing, although I count meeting new people, adapting to their way of life and maybe share some of my own culture still to be the most interesting, beneficial and self-explorative traveling experience :)

In my free time I enjoy to explore my surrounding either by foot or bike, I love reading and I am a decent chess player. I am a big movie nerd aswell. Occasionally, when the time is right and I have nice people with me, I like to party to :)
I love meeting strangers and to learn from their experiences. My friends think that I am a decent cook and I would like to cook for or with you and maybe learn more about your cuisine :)

I've worked many different jobs, some very physical, some had a great emphasis on social aspects (naturally). Although I consider Social Work to be my passion, I really do enjoy the meditative nature of physical work as well- especially outsides. I know my way around a toolbox andheavy lifting is no problem for me, although I don't have the physique of a body builder ^^
Of course there are lots of things I cannot do, but I am sturdy and with the right supervision I feel like I could be a great support for your project :)

Hello, I'm Sofia and I'm excited to explore France with Mutlu in September. I'm usually based in Hamburg, where I work as a subtitler for media products and a German as a Second Language teacher. I'm looking forward to broadening my horizons by sharing everyday life with new people. I'm especially interested in learning about alternative communities and ways of life in rural areas, and I find that inspiring.

Learning new languages opens up new ways of perceiving the world, which I find invigorating. Apart from that, spending time in nature, for example by going hiking, is the best way for me to relax. I enjoy learning about the local flora and would like to expand my knowledge of permaculture. Another way I balance myself and my body is through yoga, and I'd love to share this with others. Moreover, to get to know people, I enjoy drawing portraits of them. Mutlu and I are both interested in making music, with Mutlu being interested in the guitar and myself in the ukulele. This recently discovered passion will accompany us throughout our trip.

During our Workaway, I'd love to contribute to construction projects, gardening and animal care, as well as other practical tasks.

Mutlu: Throughout my early adulthood till now I've worked in different areas. Helping people in need was and will always be my main thing when I'm not traveling, although I would definitely be interested in doing that as well sometime :)
I've worked with children in institutional care, in a shared living facility for adults with severe mental illnesses, for adolescents in search for help with personal life issues (internship), I volunteered as a German teacher for refugees at the red cross and I volunteered as a freetime companion for people with disabilities.
Also I've worked as a mailman, in supermarkets and I worked as a stage hand for a few bigger events in my city.

During my past workaway experiences I've worked in private gardens/fields. My work there was mostly physical stuff like planting, weeding, mulching, loosening the ground, shaving wooden poles, carrying heavy stuff around and of course cooking and cleaning (I love to cook btw.). I also helped with the construction of a mudhouse and other small construction projects, mostly under guidance.

    Sofia:
I have worked as a waitress and kitchen assistant at events, as well as in bars, restaurants, and cafés. I have experience in animal care, including working with cats, chickens, and horses, as well as experience in childcare in both private and institutional settings. I have volunteered on various projects, including initiatives for people with chronic diseases and disabilities, environmental education projects, and teaching German as a second language to refugees. I currently provide educational mentoring for young refugees.

My previous Workaway experience includes working on a vineyard near Cahors and at a permaculture project in Corsica.
