Hey there! My name is Mona, I'm 26 years old and I'm from a small town in the northwest of Germany.
I arrived in Australia in October 2023 and so far I really do enjoy being here. I've met lots of kind and warm-hearted people, everyone's friendly and helpful, the nature is stunning and I'm keen to do my 88 days specified work to get the chance of a second year visa. :)

I've been working in various jobs over the past couple of years. One of them was for a travel agency and one of my favourite parts of the job as travel agent was to be surrounded by people with the same interests: discovering new countries, getting to know another culture, meeting people from all around the world. Traveling.
I always enjoyed helping our participants to fulfill their travel dreams. It’s such a pleasure to make other people happy, to support them and to share experiences.

I enjoy being surrounded by my family and friends - I have three siblings, so my whole life I've never really been alone - and now while traveling, I love meeting new people, listening to their stories and becoming friends with them.
Cooking (& baking) is one of my favourite hobbies. It's so nice to try new recipes! I also like drawing, going to the movies, reading and spending time with my dog (at home we have a little jack russel terrier called Polly - you see her on one of my pictures).
I really enjoy spending time at the outdoors but I also don't mind to work inside: I'm having office jobs for several years now and I think, much more important than being inside or outside, is the working atmosphere and having a good relationship with your co-workers.

I'm a peace-loving and positive young woman with an open mind and the motivation to gain new experiences and I would be happy to get to know you!

Work experience:
- customer service: Besides my job as a travel agent (see point below), I've gained lots of customer service experience as a guest services agent for one of Vancouver's local ski resorts from December 2020 until April 2021 and from July until September 2021 (selling and processing a variety of season passes and tickets, answering general guest inquiries in person, on the phone and per email)
- travel agent: I’ve been working for a travel agency for more than three years (09/2017 - 06/2020, 12/2021 - 07/2022), mainly in customer service (advising customers via telephone and email as well as in personal talks on fairs and information days, processing bookings in close cooperation with partners worldwide, updating customer information and travel documents…) but I was also able to gain some experience in our accounting and in our marketing team (website content management with typo3, social media management…).
- housekeeping: When I was 16 / 17 years old I was working in an old people’s home on the weekends (preparing and serving dinner for 26 residents, cleaning up dining rooms and kitchen).
- child care: During my high school time I did several internships: 6 weeks in a kindergarten (playing with and caring for children aged 2 to 6, supervising at breakfast, lunch and afternoon nap), 4 weeks in a day care group for children and teenagers aged 10 to 16 with a special family-background (supporting pedagogues, supervising at lunch, playing, accompanying activities and excursions), 4 weeks in an all-day school (supporting the teachers in class, supervising at lunch, helping with homework, supervising and playing with children at different activities). In 2018 I also spend one week as a teamer in a summer camp for children / teenagers from 9 to 16 years close to Weymouth, Great Britain (accompanying the bus drive from Berlin to Osmington Mills, supporting camp employers during activities, accompanying the children during excursions and activities…).
- animal care: In October 2018 I've spent one week at an wild animal rescue center in the Ecuadorian Amazon, where the other volunteers and I had to care for monkeys, birds, a kinkajou, a margay, turtles, dogs, peccaries and coatis (preparing food, feeding, cleaning enclosures, maintenance of enclosures and volunteer house). At home we have a dog (a little jack russel terrier I often take for a walk) and in the past we also had rabbits, guinea pigs and cats.

Other skills:
- household duties: tidying up, vacuuming, cooking, cleaning the dishes, doing the laundry.
- craft: This might sound a bit weird but I absolutely LOVE to assemble furniture (at least if I have the instructions ;-)). Moreover I often helped my dad fixing his trucks (he had learnt to be a mechanic but now he owns a small transport company with several trucks) and today I am proud to say that I am able to change the car’s tires without his help – yay!
- gardening: I am not an expert in this field, but at home I used to help my mum in the garden every now and then: planting, watering, cutting bushes, clearing weeds, mowing the lawn...
- cooking / baking: At home I was often cooking lunch or dinner for my family – mainly vegetarian - and now I of course cook for myself - completely vegetarian, but I also know how to prepare some meals with meat. If there are any special events (for example if we have a family meeting or if my friends come along or anything else) I like to prepare some snacks and finger food. I often try new recipes and my family and friends usually like what I do (at least that’s what they are telling me, haha).

I am reliable and organized. Even if there is much to do I am fulfilling my tasks in an efficient and careful manner. I am keen to learn and open for challenges: If there is anything to do I have never done before, I’d be happy to try!

What else ...

My reason for traveling is to get out of my comfort zone. I want to experience things that I might never have thought of back in Germany.
It would be a shame if I didn't have the skills that you normally expect from Workawayers. But if you want to give it a try, I promise you that I will do everything possible to make it worthwhile for you. I am hardworking, have a quick grasp and - most importantly - I am motivated to learn.
