I'm Irene, a cheerful, curious, and motivated woman.
I was born in Barcelona. I have three children and four grandchildren.
I'm retired and always eager to learn new things. I trained in graphic design and worked
in that field for many years. Later, I worked in hotel reception for several years,
where I learned a great deal about dealing with tourists.
For almost eight years, I was a tour guide at the Joan Miró Museum in Tarragona.
After that, I managed my own guesthouse, a family-run wooden house in the countryside
(345 positive reviews on Airbnb), for another eight years until my retirement.
I'm creative and skilled with my hands, hardworking, active, and I don't get discouraged easily. I consider myself a good communicator, serious, responsible, punctual, and organized.
I enjoy artistic activities in general, especially collage, clay sculpture, decorating, sewing...
Currently, I practice Family Constellations therapy (see B. Hellinger).

Estoy jubilada y siempre estoy dispuesta a aprender cosas nuevas.
Me formé en diseño gráfico y me dediqué a ello muchos años.
Más tarde trabajé en recepción de hotel durante algunos años, en los que aprendí mucho
sobre el trato con turistas.
Durante casi 8 años fui guía turística en el Museo de Joan Miró, en Tarragona.
Después, gestioné mi propia casa de huéspedes, una casa familiar de madera en pleno campo (345 valor. positivas en Airbnb) durante 8 años más, hasta la jubilación.
Me considero buena comunicadora, seria, responsable, puntual y organizada...
Soy creativa y hábil con la manos, trabajadora, activa y no me desanimo fácilmente.
Me gustan las actividades artísticas en general, especialmente el collage, la escultura en arcilla,
la decoración, la costura...
Actualmente me dedico a la terapia de Constelaciones Familiares (ver. B. Hellinger).

I love to travel and usually do it alone. My travels have taken me to Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Brazil. I've also done three Workaway volunteer placements: in Java (1 month),
in Vietnam (3 months), and in the Canary Islands (1 month).
Among my most outstanding skills is creativity, applied not only to art,
but also to ideas and life situations in general. I'm a good-natured woman,
and I tend to empathize with the people around me and I'm not prone to conflict.
I'm a willing, careful, polite, and proactive person. I'm organized and I like cleanliness.

Despite my age, I'm strong and enjoy good health. I'm still very curious and I like
to learn about everything. If what I've learned throughout my life can be useful to someone,
I love to share it. Thanks to my long working life, I can adapt to different jobs: from babysitting
(I have four grandchildren), caring for elderly people (my parents lived to be 99), doing general housework (I ran a guesthouse and Airbnb), and serving customers at a reception desk
(I worked in hotels and a museum). I'm handy, so I could also do that kind of work (painting, wallpapering, restoring, decorating). Oh! And I love driving...

Me encanta viajar y suelo hacerlo sola. Mis viajes me han llevado a Indonesia, Tailandia, Vietnam y Brasil. También he hecho tres voluntariados de Workaway: en Java (1 mes), en Vietnam (3 meses) y en Canarias (1mes).
Entre mis habilidades más destacadas está todo lo creativo, aplicado no sólo a lo artístico,
sino también a las ideas y las situaciones de la vida en general. Soy una mujer de buen carácter,
y suelo empatizar con las personas que me rodean y poco dada a los conflictos. Una persona dispuesta, cuidadosa, educada y sin pereza. Soy ordenada y me gusta la limpieza.

A pesar de mi edad, soy fuerte y gozo de buena salud. Sigo siendo muy curiosa, me gusta aprender de todo. Si lo que yo he aprendido a lo largo de la vida le puede ser útil a alguien,
me encanta compartirlo.
Por mi larga vida laboral puedo adaptarme a diferentes trabajos: desde cuidar niños (tengo
4 nietos), acompañar a personas mayores (mis padres vivieron hasta los 99 años), hacer trabajos domésticos en general (tuve una casa de huéspedes , Airbnb), atender clientes en una recepción (trabajé en hoteles y museo). Soy hábil con las manos, así que también podría realizar trabajos
de esta clase (pintar, empapelar, restaurar, decorar). Ah! Y me encanta conducir...

I was at the resort from January to April 2025. I'm writing this after almost two months. I needed some time to appreciate it from a distance... and I miss it already!
The volunteer experience was magnificent, and it left me with wonderful memories.
The facilities are beautiful, and we can use them in our free time. The beautiful gardens,… read more strolling along the beach, using the pools with their bars for refreshments, working out in the fitness center... Listening to the band that plays at night...

The accommodation: I had a spacious room overlooking the garden, with a very comfortable bed and private bathroom. A luxury! Once a week the sheets are changed and cleaning is done.

The food: The extensive buffet prepared for guests is available from 9:45 a.m. every day. There is a staff cantine where you can enjoy wonderful dishes of the most authentic Vietnamese cuisine. And for dinner, there is a varied à la carte menu in the restaurant. And sometimes there are some culinary surprises. You couldn't ask for more!

The job: In my case, the job consisted of welcoming guests upon arrival in their own languages -in my case, German and French- and seeing them off upon departure. On occasion, I accompanied a guest to the doctor or attended to a special need or request. Sometimes, guests simply enjoyed a conversation and were curious about our work as Workaway volunteers.

The schedule: We work 5 hours a day, 5 days a week (usually morning shifts) with 2 days off (which may or may not be consecutive). Daily from 5 to 6 p.m., newly arrived guests are gathered in language groups at the Welcome Reception, where they are offered a glass of wine and informed about the facilities, opening hours, local attractions, and generally have their questions answered. We often had to use the microphone to speak if the groups were very large. Since there were several of us volunteers, we were able to communicate in several languages: German, French, English, Russian, Czech, Swiss, Polish... While I was there, only two Spanish couples arrived... ;-)
Something very important! You have to wear a uniform! A beige polo shirt -the hotel provided me with 2- and black pants (I recommend one with pockets, since you'll need your cell phone) and black shoes. The laundry service has extensive hours and our clothes were always impeccable and on time.

I especially want to thank Steve for giving me the opportunity to live this wonderful experience. And I also want to thank him for the fun nightclub outings he invited us to every time a new volunteer arrived, so we could have a good time and get to know each other.
And I also want to thank the management, Peter, my colleagues at the reception desk, the bellboys, the musicians (of whom I have precious recordings), the HR people, and in general everyone who helped me settle in and made my stay pleasant and enriching.
I remember you all fondly.
