Description
Hello and welcome to my profile!
I’m Marielena, a 19-year-old from Germany, and I have recently graduated from school. Afterwards, I immediately left for my first Workaway trip to Iceland and enjoyed it a lot.
Since I normally live a very planned-out life, I’m seeing my Workaway time as a great way of growing as a person, becoming more independent, doing something very different from studying at school, and experiencing the world before I start studying law.
Overall, I’m a very studious, reasonable, and tidy person who would like to learn something new (e.g. a new language, foreign culture, taking care of animals etc.). On the other hand, I'm also more of an introverted and cautious person who likes to think things through.
In my free time, I enjoy reading - sometimes I even write my own stories -, playing the cello (I have taken classes for about 11 years by now) or going on a jogging tour through the rural nature around my home.
For the past 10 years, my family and I enjoyed travelling through Europe in our camper. On our travels, we did a lot of hiking, mountain biking, and swimming, which is why I would like to spend a lot of time in nature when visiting a new country.Interests

Since German is my native language, I'd be able/interested to teach someone. At school, I studied English, Spanish (although I stopped after about 6 years and am a little out of practice - so it would be great if I could talk to someone Spanish-speaking again), and Latin (although I don't technically speak it).Skills and knowledge I'd like to share or learn

More details about your skills
I'm a very organised person good at making plans and learning new things. At school, I study German, Latin and history at an advanced level, which is why I know a lot in these areas.
For about 11 years, I’ve taken lessons in playing the cello and have already participated in a few competitions with a friend of mine accompanying me on the piano.
Since I’ve also got a smaller sister, I’m also experienced at taking care of and helping her (for example with school). Whenever we had to do some work around our house, I liked helping my family out - so while I’m not really experienced with manual labour, I’m a quick study and am very hardworking. With my family, I’ve already painted rooms, installed a pool in our garden (we even dug the hole by ourselves), laid turf, slated a small roof and built various things made from wood.
Moreover, I’ve already stayed on a horse ranch in Switzerland as a child and helped with stable work since I took riding lessons for about 4 years when I was little. Sadly, I don’t ride any more, but miss being near the horses a lot. Because of that, I would also really love to be able to support hosts with horses and start riding again.Age
