A warm welcome to our profile description! We are Maja (25) and Val (23), a couple from Slovenia. We have both finished our studies in the fields of humanities and arts and we are, as one could expect, a bit unsure of where to go on from here :) In recent years we have both developed a desire to move away from city life, to pick up various DIY and countryside skills which would then enable us to carve an alternative path through life. Besides the benefits of being able to partake in cultural exchange and gain an insight into a dimension of local life usually obscured to tourist eyes, it is this desire to learn valuable, interesting and 'handy' skills that has encourages us to embark on the workaway journey (although admittedly the neccessity for a tight has budget also played its role :) )

We both already have experience in volounteering but not yet across the wide seas. Parallel with our studies Maja has worked with children quite a lot while I (Val) have a lot of experience in hospitality. I grew up in the city and Maja was raised as a farm/village girl but has also spent the larger part of her life in the Slovene capital of Ljubljana. At the end of the day our primary goal is rather basic, it is to get to know local people, culture and nature and we are interested in doing so through varied work/experiences. Our arrival to New Zealand is on the 23rd of October and we will stay on a WHV for a bit less than a year.
