  • Description

Hey! I'm Lorna, I'm a 34 year old Irish woman who's been travelling around Central and South America for nearly 3 years now, just back in Mexico now after 6 months in Ireland to start the year off warm and happy!
My trip was only supposed to be 1 year in total, but I've loved it too much and I can't see myself living in Ireland again. I've been living in hostels all this time and have made some great friends from all over world because of that. I love meeting new people and sharing experiences and cultures and obviously just being in warm and sunny places.

I love rock and metal music, dark humour and a good comedy. I learnt to scuba dive on my travels and I absolutely love it and go whenever I get the chance. I enjoy being in nature, whether it's the beach, jungle or mountains. I enjoy hiking also. I absolutely love dogs and will spend as much time with them as possible!
Mosquitos absolutely love me however it's not reciprocated.

My pre-backpacking life entailed a degree in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and I worked in a pharmaceutical manufacturing company for 10 years. Leading a shift of 10 people while running the systems, assembling and repairing equipment, troubleshooting and liasing with other departments. I've left that stressful industry behind but I value all the skills and experience I gained from my time there.

Previous to this, I worked in bars, restaurants and hotels for a number of years to support myself while I was in college. I've done a number of DIY jobs in my own home also, painting, sanding, varnishing, siliconing, drilling & hammering, powerwashing etc. I have had back problems in the past so the only thing I can't do is heavy lifting/dragging etc.

I'm a hard worker, not afraid to dig in and get a job done. I'm good with people and people-management along with a good sense of foresight and problem solving. I like to keep work and living areas clean and organised.

I'm excited to start some workaways so I can continue my adventures while also giving back to the travel and local communities.

I've taken 3 Spanish courses to help me during my travels in Latin America, I was just in Brazil for 6 months so I had put my Spanish on the side when trying to learn some Portuguese but I'm eager to get back to learning and practicing my Spanish now. I am willing to help teach English also if requested.

Ability to navigate myself around Latin America solo, I've adapted to life in hostels and the uncertainty that comes with living out of a backpack full time.

  • What else ...

Before my travels I was an avid gamer (PlayStation).

I spent 7 years in a voluntary first aid organisation, learning skills, providing medical cover for public events and teaching others. I then spent 5 years with a private company teaching and was certified by the governing bodies in Ireland. My certificates have lapsed but my skills are still intact.
