  • Description

    Hello dear hosts,

My name is Léonard, I am 27 years old and I am French.
Don't worry, I don't eat frogs and I can survive a couple of days without eating a baguette :D .

I was born in a village called Louveciennes, not far from Paris, and ever since I was a child I have been fascinated by the wonderful world of nature. This led me to study biology, particularly ecology (the study of species, ecosystems and the relationships between them).
As you can imagine, I love the great outdoors and animals of all kinds.
I am also passionate about a whole host of other things, including agriculture and manual labour, which led me eight years ago to set up my own farm in Burgundy, where I raised sheep, rabbits, chickens and a goose. I spent my days growing vegetables, chopping wood, looking after the animals and renovating the farm, which was in ruins.
After four years, the adventure came to an end and I returned to Paris to finish my Master's degree in Biology.
I still have many hobbies, mainly boxing (which I have been competing in since I was 16) and music (I make music myself, but I love listening to many different styles of music and particularly enjoy attending small concerts in pubs).

I am also passionate about travelling.
I have never needed to go to the other side of the world to enjoy my travels. I first travelled extensively in my car in my own country, France.
Thanks to my car, I also went to Germany and Italy.
Then I wanted to go even further and experience the cold of the far north, so I drove to Sweden in the middle of winter. I spent part of the trip in my car (yes, it was very cold) and the other part doing my first workaways.
I had two unforgettable experiences thanks to these workaways.
I had the opportunity to work on a ranch for a month, where I took care of the horses (feeding them, riding them, etc.), built shelters and feed the other farm animals (pigs, sheep, quails, chickens, goats, rabbits), cut trees and chopped firewood.
After that, I worked for two weeks for a lady who became a very close friend, mainly helping her with small renovation jobs in her house and with her firewood.
I came away from these two experiences feeling very enriched and now I would like to do it in Ireland.

    Why Ireland?

Until now, I have spent a lot of time in England and Scotland. I studied in England for a while and lived in Scotland for a short time, where I worked for a company that offered guided tours of Edinburgh by bicycle and lived (and worked) in a superb youth hostel at the same time.
I really fell in love with Scotland and I often go back to see my friends.
However, I've never been to Ireland, which isn't that far away and has been appealing to me for a long time. I would really like to learn more about Irish culture, and its beautiful landscapes which I still know so little about. I also want to continue to improve my English because it's so easy to loose it when you're in your own country (I'll be pleased of course to teach French).
As a big fan of pubs, live music and wide open spaces, I'm sure Ireland is a country where I'd like to settle down. In fact, I have plans to move to Ireland in the future, and this Workaway will be an opportunity for me to get a first glimpse of what it's like.

What matters most to me is having a meaningful exchange with my hosts (culture, language, knowledge...). I am really eager to learn new things and meet new people to forge bonds that will last forever.

I am already looking forward to meeting you !

    See you soon :D

    Leonard
