  • Description

Hello! I'm Hikari from Japan. I studied agriculture and ecology in Japan and forest science at Helsinki University.

After graduating, I took a gap year to volunteer at organic farms all across Japan. During this time, I met a traditional vegetable farmer who inspired me deeply. I realized that while heirloom/traditional vegetables are rich in culture and flavor, they can be challenging for modern home cooks to prepare. This sparked my interest in how high-end gastronomy can connect people with local agriculture, leading me to work as a front-of-house service staff at a fine dining restaurant in Kyoto, where I learned about wine and beverage pairing.

However, working in a restaurant made me realize I want to stay rooted in the production side. I am passionate about bridging the gap between producers and consumers through food, permaculture, and community!

What I can help with / Areas I can support: of course, I’m open to help with any kind of job!
Farming & Gardening: I have experience with organic vegetable growing, foraging, and farm work, and I'm happy to help out in the field.
Food & Hospitality: Thanks to my background in a restaurant, I’m comfortable assisting with meal preparation, basic kitchen tasks, and hosting guests.
Outdoor & Forest Work: With my background in forest science, I’m used to being outdoors and don't mind physical tasks in nature.

I have WWOOFed in NZ, Finland, and the UK. I love running, cycling, swimming, hiking, reading, and exploring local food cultures shaped by natural climates. I am flexible, respectful, and eager to learn about your lifestyle and sustainable practices! Thank you for reading!
