  • Description

Hi! My name is Katie and I grew up in west London, where I currently live with my parents. I have just completed a three-year degree in Architecture at the University of Cambridge where I enjoyed studying modules in film, landscape and gender.

Right now, I am working as a teaching assistant in a science camp for kids ages 4-13. I really enjoy being around young people, doing crafts, learning through play and sharing my passion for education.

I am currently planning a trip that will begin in September this year (2025) in Poland, where my Grandfather is from. I then hope to continue slowly travelling east with my little backpack (hopefully I can fit everything in!). I am most excited about meeting new people, learning about other cultures and experiencing different ways of living. I also love music, dance, cooking, writing and nature.

I have travelled mostly in Europe and spent my childhood summers camping in France with my parents. When I was 16 I fundraised to travel to Zambia and Botswana for three weeks, where I visited National parks and helped on a local community school project.

In summer 2022, I completed my first work-away in the South of France at an equestrian farm. It was an amazing experience! I also spent a month interrailing through Europe, from London to Istanbul, which ignited my passion for exploring more places.

I also have previous experience working as a retail assistant, babysitter, waitress, tutor, kitchen porter and volunteering as an assistant art teacher in a special needs school. I have graphic design experience and am competent in the Adobe and Microsoft suite.

  • More details about your skills

I studied Architecture at university, where I developed a foundation in traditional academic skills such as English, Maths, and Science. Through my degree, I also gained hands-on construction experience, working on real projects and building models. I can use a range of power tools, including saws, drills, and sanders, and I have some personal experience painting and decorating.
I have worked part-time in hospitality and retail as a waitress, kitchen porter, and sales assistant, strengthening my teamwork and customer service skills.
Currently, I am working as a Teaching Assistant at a Science Camp for children aged 4–13. This role has helped me grow my skills in childcare, spontaneity, leadership, and teamwork. I also have babysitting experience, which includes school pickups, assisting with after-school activities, and caring for children at home.
In a previous Workaway placement, I worked on a horse farm in France. I love being around animals — especially horses and dogs — and have horse riding experience as well as general animal care skills.
Additionally, during my studies, I developed skills in film-making and graphic design, which I am happy to put to use if needed.
