Description
I'm newer to Workaway but I've volunteered multiple times with the wwoof platform. My nickname is Joey. For the better part of the last 12 months, • I've volunteered in the sunny tropical south of Mexico, working with tropical fruits • farmed in multiple locations in the lovely Galicia region of Spain, • teached English conversation to kids and adults alike in Casablanca, Morocco, • and taking care of dozens of dogs 🐕 and other animals in a village north of there, • helping out in a spiritual community in Belgium, including helping to set up an Indian style wedding, and • farming in another spiritual community in a small town north of London, • volunteering in Canterbury, feeding 🐐 goats and 🐖 pigs, clearing blackberry brambles and stinging nettle, gardening, and putting in fencing, among other things. • In 2019-2020 I worked for 7 months, on Kickback Farm, a property in Rio Linda, California. • Before that, I worked on 7 other properties for approximately 1.5 years in my mid-twenties. • I've also helped friends with their gardens and light home repairs/ construction. • I'm currently back in southern Mexico, volunteering and enjoying the tropical paradise that it is. Many years ago, I was an engineer in the army and learned how to drive and operate many different types of military and 👷♂️ construction vehicles, mine clearance & demolitions among other things.
Some of my farming experiences have been - • working with lamas • helped a first time goat 🐐 mother give birth, which is a cherished memory • wwoofed on a hobby flower 🌼 🌸 garden on Vashon Island • collected berries & removed poison ivy from a historic property north of NYC • saved 2 birds 🐦 🐦⬛ from being stuck in garden netting • worked with micro greens • been the primary morning & night help to dozens of chickens 🐔 • planted & harvested many types of plants fruit, including • many trees with and w/o jack hammers to get through hard layers of earth • put in fencing for a new pig 🐖 pen • worked with most all of the typical farm animals, dozens of dogs 🐕 and some. I've had a variety of 🚜 and other volunteer experiences. While I am an amateur tourist farmer/ volunteer at best, helping people with their farming, gardening & homesteading visions and other volunteering/work-trading tasks is a joy.
I love camping, movies and documentaries alike, making friends in multiple countries, a bit of baking, cerveza artesanal 🍺, tropical fruit 🍍 🍒 🥭 🥑, artisan pizza 🍕 & & & ask me anything.
Lastly, I've done a lot of work with homeless populations in the U.S.A.

Joey stayed with us for about 6 weeks in the end. It was great to get to know him and he was very easy to have around. He was very respectful of our space and family. He has a very solid work ethic and quickly got into a good routine of working in the mornings and doing his own thing in the afternoons. He was always keen to get the job done properly and would ask for extra clarification if needed. Best of luck with the rest of your travels Joey!

Joey was a terrific farm helper! He was strong and able to follow directions and had good personal boundaries. He kept careful track of his time and I always got as much help as I asked for. When learning a new skill he was interested and learned easily. In a month with us he completed a project that had had me stymied for several years. I enjoyed dinner discussions with Joey and wish him all the best in his future!

*Paolo's daily cooked meals were delicious.
*He didn't expect anything more than what was agreed upon. Less even.
*His berries and the cherry 🍒 🌳 trees in the area were a delicious treat!
