I have experience in hospitality and tourism environments, including roles in the restaurant industry and at a PADI dive centre. At the dive centre, other than customer service, I also supported daily operations by cleaning, rinsing, drying, loading, organising, and maintaining dive equipment to ensure it was safety and properly prepared for guest use. This experience strengthened my attention to detail, organisation, and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation.

In addition, with over 4 years of professional experience in the interior design industry, I have developed strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills through working closely with clients and managing their expectations.

Jerry worked very hard while staying with us, he oiled the decks, cleaned , gardened and cooked delicious meals. He is lovely and talkative so meal times were never dull.

My first ever Workaway experience, and also my first time visiting Australia — and honestly, I couldn't have asked for a better start! 😆

I stayed with Fiona and her family for two weeks, and Fiona was super nice, kind and welcoming from the very beginning. She provided me with my own private room, meals, and most importantly, she was totally … read more happy for me to cook whatever I wanted. Of course, I still had to keep everyone's dietary requirements in mind, so it became a little challenge for me to make sure everyone could enjoy the same meal together. I especially enjoyed cooking lunch for everyone and having the chance to share some of my creative Asian cuisine with them. 😂 It was actually really fun trying to make something that worked for everyone — and hopefully they genuinely enjoyed it and weren't just being polite!

Most of my work was helping around the house and garden — cleaning the house, gardening, washing the car, oiling the deck, going grocery shopping and all kinds of other little jobs. Basically, it's like giving the house a bit of a "new house makeover" before I left. 😂 It was actually quite satisfying to see everything looking cleaner and fresher after all the work. And yes, I survived the gardening too!

One of the things I really enjoyed was spending time with Lucia. We had lots of random conversations, shared different thoughts and opinions, and somehow ended up laughing about all kinds of things. It didn't really feel like I was just staying with a host family — it felt more like hanging out with friends. Sometimes we would just talk about random stuff and somehow the conversation became funny for no reason. Those little moments were definitely part of what made the experience special.

And seriously... who decided two weeks was enough?! 😂 I honestly didn't realize how quickly the time went until suddenly it was time to leave. I thought I was just going to do a Workaway, help around the house, experience Australia and then move on — but I ended up getting attached to the place and the people. Leaving was actually a little sad, and I didn't expect that I would miss them so quickly.

As my first Workaway experience and my first time in Australia, this will definitely be one of those experiences I'll remember for a long time. Thank you, Fiona, for being such a lovely host, for making me feel comfortable, and for giving me the freedom to enjoy my time there. Thank you to the whole family for the conversations, food, laughs and all the little moments.

Thank you again, Fiona and family! I really enjoyed my time with you all. Hopefully I'll get to see you again while I'm still in Australia — or perhaps one day in Malaysia! Cheers! 🥂❤️
