About Me – John Douglas Crook
Hello! My name is John, and I currently work in the UK as a professionally trained live-in carer, supporting elderly clients in their homes. I hold a certified Enhanced DBS certificate and a full UK driver’s licence. Between care placements, I often return to Cape Town, South Africa, where I’m originally from.
I’m using Workaway to find meaningful opportunities where I can exchange practical help for accommodation during my time off from caregiving. My background as an architectural designer has given me a solid understanding of building materials, renovation, painting, and maintenance work, and I have good woodworking and general handyman skills. I take pride in keeping spaces well-maintained, tidy, and welcoming.
Through my live-in care work, I’ve developed strong skills in household management, cooking, cleaning, and organisation. Skilled in household management, personal care, meal preparation, medication support, cleaning, and general home organisation, I ensure comfort, safety, and dignity at all times.
I am a good communicator and a genuine people person, comfortable engaging with individuals of all ages, including children and older adults. I’m also trained in first aid, infection control, and moving & handling, and hold a UK driver’s licence for client appointments and errands.
Architectural Design Skills:
Qualified and experienced in architectural design and planning, with a strong understanding of materials, finishes, lighting, and spatial design. I have a creative yet practical approach to problem-solving and am comfortable managing small projects, renovations, and home improvements.
