Hi, I am Issei Takisawa, an exchange student from Japan to University Tennessee at Martin.
I study education there and am gonna be an teacher in special school.
I study abroad here for a year and am gonna return to Japan this December.
I am willing to study English and contribute to your community. I have experince to live with someone who is not my family so I respect and follow your manner and the houserule.
I may not be able to understand English sometimes, but I think there is no trouble with understanding everyday conversation.

My major is education (special education and English education) so I love interaction with people.
I have worked in a different places so far. For exapmle, caregiver in a institution for people with disabilities (two years), a farmer assistant (one year), an adviser for freshmen (one and half year), English tutor (3 years) and tour guide for English speakers.

I stayed there for about three weeks while working for housechores.The hosts, Tom and Joan are really nice guys and they have a lot of experiences with workawayers.
Of course they accepts any nationalities but I heard their guests end up being more French and Japanese for some reasons. Their house is located far away from the city that you can … read more not get uber , therefore it takes some time to get there. However, it is a quiet and nice place.

I besically spend time doing housechores and watching movies together at night. The work is held in yard and basement. Sometimes, I cleaned the tiles using pressure washer and prune hedges, paint the decks and weed.
It can be really hot in Wavery especially in summer, but while I was staying there at the begginig of July, it often rained and that made me feel cooler luckily. When it started to rain, I work inside to organize tools in a basement. I worked everyday for about 5 to 8 hours. Once I had a headache, they happily had me take a rest.

What other workawayers should be carefull is that you should make sure bring medications for a rash and insects bite because their yard has many mosquietos and ticks. They can give you a repell. sometimes it works and does not work. Other workawayers and I had many rushes after entering into woods. Thus, I reccomend you to bring some medications if you have sensitive deposition.
Good thing is that you can take a break anytime you want they happily offer a glass of water and some snacks while you take a break.

Their food was great! They offer you sourthern traditional food. If you ask them, you could get a big amount of food. Former half when I stayed, they have offered me big big amount of food haha. I appreciated it. In addition to it, they made some delicious dessert fo me all the time.

I learned English pronunciation and words through communication. When he noticed the mistakes of my English or when I asked about it, he gave me feedback. Then, What we watched movie together was very helpful to learn English as well.
Although we had a problem about our communication due to lack of my English, we solved the problen soon through conversation. It was a good opportunity to learn English nuance.

Every Tuesday, we went to local senior club and had some lunch with elderly people, and he took me to a democrats party and election party. So you can see how politics here are like. One time, he drove me around the river and let me see how beatiful their neighborhood is. That was a good reflesh.

They like international and cultural topics. We talked various stuffs like cultural differences, language differences, politics, international affairs and finance.

In conclusion, I appreciate all their effort for these three weeks. I learned English and experienced something I would not do other places. I hope your health.
