  • Description

    Hi!
My name is Henri-Joël, I’m 22 years old, and I come from a small town called Delémont, in the north-west of Switzerland. I currently live with my mum, my grandmother, and our three small dogs, which has taught me a lot about helping others and mutual respect.

Before fully entering the professional world, a step that excites me but also scares me a little, I felt a strong need to travel and gain perspective. That’s why I decided to explore countries that deeply inspire me: Australia, then New Zealand, and possibly Canada.

For me, this journey is not just about travelling, but about discovering new cultures, mentalities, and ways of living that are very different from what we know in Europe.
This trip is also an opportunity to improve my English, which I believe is essential today, and even more importantly, to learn more about myself. Stepping out of my comfort zone, meeting new people, and living simple but meaningful experiences will help me grow and better understand my own path.

I’m a simple, positive, and active person. Sport plays a big role in my life I used to be a football player and referee, and today I mainly practise individual sports like fitness, street workout, and running. I also enjoy personal challenges; at the moment, I’m training for a marathon in Pisa, Italy.
I’m also passionate about food and cooking, and I love both discovering new dishes and sharing meals with others.
What I value most are the simple moments in life: a walk, a shared meal, a movie night, a sunset, or a board game evening with good people.

This is my first time using Workaway, and I’m really excited about the idea of making my journey more meaningful through cultural exchange and shared experiences. During my studies, I already lived 12 months in Heidelberg, Germany, where I quickly adapted to a new culture, language, and work ethic. It was an incredibly enriching experience, and I’m sure this adventure will be even more special.

Looking forward to meeting you and sharing experiences together !

    Henri-Joël

I completed a commercial employee apprenticeship, obtaining a Swiss Federal Certificate of Competence (CFC) as well as a multilingual professional baccalaureate (French–German). Through this education, I developed strong skills in organisation, communication, administration, and a good understanding of how a business works, including solid IT skills.
My mother tongue is French, and I have a very good level of German (C1).
I speak basic English and can communicate in simple everyday conversations. I am eager to improve my English through immersion.
I would be happy to help practise or teach French or German if needed.

After my studies, I completed my mandatory military service in Switzerland, which I decided to pursue further until becoming an officer. I was responsible for training, guiding, and supporting around 40 recruits. This experience taught me a lot about leadership, organisation, teaching, stress management, teamwork, self-confidence, and mental or physical resilience.
Despite common stereotypes about the military, I have always kept a very human, respectful, and caring approach, and I would be happy to share my experiences if any curiosity is shown.

I am generally a very social, positive, and adaptable person. I enjoy spending time with others, learning from them, and I also feel very comfortable around animals.
I can also contribute with some practical skills, such as: basic fitness coaching and sports support, men’s haircuts or helping with daily organisation, planning, and general assistance.

Finally, one of my main goals during this journey is to develop manual and hands-on skills. I am very motivated to learn more about DIY, gardening, painting, woodworking, and renovation work. Even if I don’t have extensive experience yet, I bring enthusiasm, reliability, and a strong willingness to learn, and I would love to discover a new passion through work.
