  • Description

I am 23 years old and graduated from university in Durham, England, last year. Since graduating I have spent 6 months living on a small sustainable farm in rural Sweden learning about cultivation, fermentation and preservation, cooking, foraging and lots of other random things! I actually learnt how to make and store cheese over an open fire and since taught new workaways how to do that! I’m interested in lots and lots of different things, I like being creative, being outside and making new friends! Right now i am curious to develop skills in carpentry and woodwork as that’s something i have very little experience with seems cool (and also useful!)
I want to live in a way that is in service to, rather than damaging, Mother Earth and also gives me to freedom and independence to be self-reliant. So, right now i am trying to learn as much about these things as i can so that one day i can hopefully establish my own off grid tiny home, growing my own food.

  • More details about your skills

I have skills in food preservation and fermentation. Specifically, i have experience pickling vegetables, making LOTS of kombucha, cider, vinegar. I have experience working on vegetable fields and also a small market vegetable garden growing lots of different types of vegetables. I know how to make cheese from milk. I can also prepare raw unhomogenised milk to get cream, milk and yoghurt myself. I can gut and clean some types of fish and know how to fish with traditional fishing nets in a sustainable way. I also have experience cooking for large groups of people (the biggest meals I’ve cooked are for 20 people but i have most experience cooking for between 6-15) on indoor and outdoor kitchens and cast iron wood powered stoves. I love cooking, particularly traditional recipes. When i was in Sweden i learnt a few traditional Swedish recipes, but i also can do many English recipes (I love making pies!!!!) and would love to learn to cook traditional cuisines from other cultures too!

I have a degree in English Literature so can write pretty well. I love to read (and sometimes write) poetry. I’ve also worked as a copywriter/editorial assistant online/remotely so can assist with things involving social media/websites/advertisement/IT stuff etc. I also have experience drawing/creating food labels for beer bottles and other food produce for the small farm i stayed on in Sweden and this is something i really enjoy doing.

I have as a secondary school teacher and as a care assistant for elderly people living with dementia so I have experience and skills working and communicating with people.

  • What else ...

I recently did my first pilgrimage in Cornwall, walking alone for 8 days about 90 miles mostly on the south west coastal path! It was challenging but really beautiful and I’d love to do another one maybe in the spring. I really like creative things, i love painting, I’d love to learn how to make pottery from clay (or even foraged clay) and i like travelling to new places and meeting new people. I am friendly and open minded and really excited to meet other people who are interested in similar things to me.
