Hi! I’m Gabrielle, 23, from the Netherlands. I studied humanistic sciences — a mix of sociology, psychology, and philosophy about how people find meaning and how we can create a more humane world.
After finishing my studies, I spent five months in South Africa traveling around and working as a lodge receptionist, social media manager, and at an after-school program. That experience made me fall in love with this way of traveling — by staying and working somewhere, you get the chance to really connect with people, understand the culture you’re in, and create a sense of home wherever you are.
I now work as a social worker, supporting people experiencing homelessness with housing, finances, and personal growth. After a year and a half, I saved up enough to do what I love most — traveling! I enjoy learning new things and spending time outdoors as much as possible — hiking, mountain biking, sailing, surfing, horseback riding, you name it!
Next up: Panama, Colombia, and Peru (from January to July)! I’m excited to see what this Workaway adventure will bring — and ofcourse what I’ll be able to contribute :)Interests

More details about your skills
I work as a social worker, supporting people experiencing homelessness with housing, finances, and personal growth. This work has taught me a lot about listening, patience, and supporting people in finding stability in their lives.
I worked in homecare, connecting elderly people who needed support with students in our neighbourhood. I also visited two elderly clients weekly to help with cleaning. Through this, I learned to clean (well!), handle administrative work, create space for people to share their stories, and connect different groups of people.
I also worked as a shop manager in a cookie shop that offers job opportunities to people who face barriers to employment, such as intellectual disabilities or lack of residence status. We were setting up an apprenticeship program, which I really enjoyed! There, I learned the basics of sales and customer service, and how to think creatively and find solutions.
I took horse riding lessons for seven years and helped at the stables for a few of those. I learned to ride, help children saddle up, assist during lessons, bring horses in and out of the meadow, and muck out stables.
I have a bit of experience as a receptionist at a lodge, where I welcomed guests, handled bookings, and helped with daily tasks around the lodge.
Photography has been one of my passions for the past six years — I love using it as a way to tell stories. I’ve taken two photography courses and know the basics of making and editing videos. I also have experience in managing social media accounts for a lodge.
But most importantly: if I don’t know how to do something yet, I’m always eager and happy to learn!Age
