  • Description

Hello! Longtime retired(?) WWoofer and naturalist/myco enthusiast with curious horticulture loving husband and scouting child in tow.
I spent my early twenties working and wwoofing on organic and regenerative farms in Germany, Italy, Spain and Texas. I worked the farmer's markets through my 30's as side gigs. I briefly served as the DEIA committee chair for our master naturalist chapter and volunteered as an educator and grant writer for our local mycological chapter. I also worked for 3 years as an early learning sensory garden director. I built a regenerative native plant and vegetable garden and butterfly sanctuary and maintained it with the help of some amazing volunteers and community.

My cyclical nature has me loving city life AND nature and I dream of seeing cities incorporate the natural world into their infrastructure and of the rural world becoming more connected in some parts of the world where people lack for ecologically sound infrastructure and suffer isolation as a result (looking at rural Americas big time here). I. LOVE. COMPOSTING. Very interested in soil microscopy and the relationship between trees, soil and funga. I'm also a linguaphile and otherwise "weird old broad"/artist.

My husband is a writer who hands down keeps our house plants alive and has become a pretty good tree planter over the years. He is also a cat whisperer. Our almost 7 year old is an amazing catalyst with a lot to teach the world about being human. He loves a good hike and rolling down hills.

My child and I have dual Italian/American citizenship and I very much want to honor that by learning as much as possible about Italian life, history and culture. We sold our house in Fall 2024 in Austin, Texas so that our child could go to school in Italy and we could start a new life. Professionally my husband worked in Academia as an instructional designer and I have always juggled several gigs within the nonprofit, arts and education sectors. We are creatives, in the end and my family and I miss having our hands in the dirt.

More details about my language interests
I (Drea) am a natural linguephile and have TEFL certification. I've also taught Mexican American Spanish to preschool aged children. My husband's degree is in English and he has also taught TEFL without certification. Currently we are all learning Italian, as we live in Italy. We would also love the opportunity to learn Farsi, Arabic, Japanese, Chinese, Kiswahili, Yoruba, and/or Irish (really there's not a language we'd say no to). We welcome any opportunities to practice and improve our Spanish and French.
