  • Description

    Dear friends and interested readers,
We, Edith and Jean-Daniel, are two enthusiastic people who enjoy excitement, spontaneity, communication, culture and above all meeting new people. Edith was for a long time an committed teacher at the secondary school level and later at the high school for various languages (German, French, English), with a focus on French. She loves French literature, the culture of France and its history. She therefore also speaks French fluently. During a few years in Great Britain, she has worked extensively with children in need of special care and has done a wide variety of care work (cooking, gardening, going for walks, travelling, eating together, etc.). Since her retirement, she has been involved with enthusiasm in various projects with kids (learning support) but also with adults (giving seminars on musicians and poets such as Leonhard Cohen).

  • More details about your skills

Jean-Daniel is father of three daughters and has a scientific background. After studying chemistry, he did his post-doc in Canada and later in the USA at universities, where he further developed his research. He met people from all over the world, which strongly influenced his curiosity for people and their culture in general. Back in Switzerland, he was mainly involved with environmental chemistry in laboratories at various institutions. Water quality was a central topic of his investigations. After his retirement, he worked for a further two years at the University of Berne together with biologists in the field of chemical communication with plants. That's right, plants talk to each other, and they also have their own language. In addition to science, various languages (German, French, English, Italian) are important instruments of communication for Jean-Daniel. His mother tongues are German and French. He can also communicate well in English and Italian. In recent years, he has studied ancient languages such as Latin and Greek. Since his retirement, he has also been active in various voluntary organizations that aim to support pupils with learning difficulties. He has also worked in the Alps in the mountains on various occasions, actively helping mountain farmers in stables and fields. During his free time, he is still playing soccer, and he once was always eager to win! He basically loves to be in teams playing different ball games such as tennis, basketball, handball, soccer etc. Nowadays he prefers to have fun above all and winning is not as important as before.
So not only are we both able to pass on knowledge, but we also enjoy working with our hands and exchanging ideas with others. This is important to us. After various conversations with people who like to travel and have worked in different places, we decided that Namibia is going to be the place of our choice. The country offers everything that is important to us: opportunities for volunteering in social and other areas, nature, sea, desert, waterfalls, mountains, culture and, above all, friendly and helpful people. We would highly appreciate if we could benefit from food and lodging and if the working place would be easily accessible (e.g. Windhoek). A period starting from mid-August 2025 for one month would be ideal for us. Afterwards we are planning a trip through this wonderful country.
We are very much looking forward to our stay in Namibia, wish the country prosperity, a successful economy and peace and hope to hear from interested readers as soon as possible.
