Description
Hello workaway! My name is Desi and I am a 26-years old female from the Netherlands. I grew up in a small town next to the beach and so I call the ocean my home. I have always felt a strong connection with water and a few years ago I discovered surfing. After tasting these adventures, I am left with a mind dreaming of waves. There are some in the Netherlands, but am currently traveling to stay as true to my dreams as possible.
I would describe myself as down-to-earth, sometimes enthusiastic, other times calm. I am at my happiest surrounded by nature. I enjoy small moments over big achievements. Love animals, am a climate activist and daydreamer. I enjoy watching the moon and the stars, the patterns bird create in the sky and the seasons changing. Other than that I love listening to music, making art and (indoor) rock climbing.
The past three years of my life I have been following a bachelor course at university in Anthropology and Development Sociology and am currently based in Amsterdam. It feels welcoming and comforting where I am living now. The course taught me to constantly reflect upon my own assumptions in order to understand other people's worldview. I have been enjoying it so far. Especially because it has allowed me to be more conscious about my conversations with others and to keep on learning from them. At the end of my bachelors, I have focused on the topic of trust, both in people and in life and am still curious to discover how trust can set the tone for an experience. Within my own life, or by listening to others.
Workaway has offered me some special moments that I keep with me in life. I enjoy the process of slowly getting to know a new place, new people and new perspectives. So far I helped out at a chili farm, picked olives, taught English to 3 till 10 years olds, planted coffee trees, build with natural materials, volunteered and taught yoga at a surf-camp, helped out in a permaculture garden and took part in the process of building an earth-ship (self-heating house made of trash). I am at my happiest surrounded by nature and am open to volunteer at some more remote places.Interests

More details about your skills
I am not afraid for some physical work, while combining muscles with positivity. I like to work with my hands, mostly when it involves rooting in the earth. I volunteered on some farms before and am eager to try this again. I also love to take care of animals. I am open to learning new skills. For example, I do not have that much knowledge about plants, growing plants or taking care of them yet, but do have a growing interest.
I can help with teaching English and be a language buddy. I like to connect and chat and am eager to explain things.
I completed a Yoga Teacher Training in 2019 in the mountains of Nepal and would call myself a Hatha Yoga teacher. I am wishing to share the balance and physical awareness I experience while practicing yoga myself. During the training I practiced yoga at the Nepal Yoga Academy, which provided me with a traditional and disciplined style of yoga. It always makes me feel very happy to teach and see other people challenge themselves and become more calm. If there is an opportunity to teach yoga at your place I would love to teach some classes.
I have quit some experience in hospitality. I started working in a lunchroom at the age of 14 and am currently still making coffees and walking around with trays while making people feel at home. That led me to strengthen my social and communication skills. I value a compassionate work environment, in which everyone feels included, comfortable and heard.
Other than that, I can cook some vegetarian meals, help around the house, create art.Age
