Description
I am a computer scientist who does not need WIFI at home, as I already have a bike, walking boots and a tuba. After my PhD I decided to work part-time, to have more time to spend in the real world (rather than in the office), for instance by travelling by bike, foot or train (not by plane, why burn kerosene if you could also burn calories from local dishes?). I like slow travelling as it is so much easier to discover new things, meet nice people who are not in a rush and have interesting conversations. In fact, I first learned about Workaway by meeting enthusiastic Workawayers on my cycling trips from the Netherlands to Wales and Portugal. Although I like being on the road, it would also be nice to spend some more time in one place, doing some practical work outdoors, to experience how it is to live on the countryside. This summer, I hope to combine a cycling trip from Austria to the Netherlands with a first Workaway.

When I am travelling, I always try to learn (a bit of) the language of the country I am travelling to - although that is sometimes very limited (diolch / dziękuję). Although DuoLingo is nice, it is always better learn it from people. It would also be nice to teach one of the languages that I speak to someone else. -

More details about your skills
I am good at programming and languages (I speak Dutch, English, German and French) but I would like to do and learn more practical things. As a student, I had summer jobs in instrument transport for festivals and orchestras -- moving musical instruments between the van and the stage and making sure that the musicians are happy -- which I really liked. I also have some teaching experience as I taught students at university.
So if you need a skilled carpenter, farmer, cook, ... with years of experience, you do not need me. But if you need someone who is motivated to learn new practical skills, not scared to get her hands dirty or ask for clarifications and could also do a boring job, let me know :) I am strong enough to carry a tuba or cycle 6000km, so I might be strong enough to be of help. -
