Hello, Thank you for checking my profile. I was a 15 year rural mail carrier in northern Illinois. It was a wonderful job while raising my 2 children. I left the post office in 2015 to pursue other interests.
In 2017, I started working at a remote lodge above the arctic circle in a tiny village called Bettles Alaska. Friends from my hometown own the lodge and asked me to help run it. This is how my seasonal employment /alternative lifestyle began! I soon discovered Workaway to fill the time off in between seasons. I loved the work, loved the guests, loved the outdoors, and loved the remoteness of bush Alaska. It was a total disconnect from technology. There was no cell service, very little Internet and only 4 tv channels.
My duties at the lodge are answering the phones, making reservations, floating the river with the guests, painting when needed, cooking, turning rooms, dishes, and all other aspects of running a lodge.
The lodge has a winter and summer season with 2 months off in between. That’s how I discovered workaway. -
