  • Description

    Hello! I’m Charlie

Like many people here, I truly come alive when I’m travelling. I’d describe myself as a caring, thoughtful, and easy going person who enjoys meeting new people and embracing new experiences.

I’m naturally curious, energetic, and love to keep active, whether that’s socialising, swimming, playing basketball, or hiking in the mountains.

Travel has already taken me to some amazing places. My first Workaway experience in France opened the door to everything that followed, including a road trip through France and Switzerland, where I explored Zurich, met wonderful people, and even had the unforgettable chance to fly a plane!

Since then, I’ve travelled through the Swiss Alps, spent time in Hungary (where I fell in love with Budapest), and completed the Pennine Way in the UK—17 days of challenging but incredibly rewarding hiking that taught me to appreciate the simple things in life.

I’ve also discovered a love for hostels. I’ve stayed in hostels across Croatia, France, Israel, and Jordan, and even worked in a hostel in Tel Aviv for a month. For me, the best part of travelling is the people—making connections quickly, sharing stories, and experiencing new places together.

I joined Workaway because I believe it’s one of the most authentic ways to travel, living with locals, contributing, and really immersing yourself in the culture, food, and language. I love meeting people from different backgrounds and learning from their perspectives.

Academically, I studied Human Biology and have recently completed a Master’s in developmental Biology. Alongside this, I spent several years working in the British film industry, which helped me develop resilience, adaptability, and problem-solving skills.

Growing up and moving frequently has made me very comfortable adapting to new environments and different ways of life. I’m respectful of shared spaces, easy-going, and always willing to help wherever needed.

I’m especially interested in opportunities where I can continue learning about sailing, contribute meaningfully to the running of the boat, and be part of a good, supportive crew.

If you think I’d be a good fit, I’d love to hear from you!

    Thanks for reading,

    Charlie

  • More details about your skills

I’m a hardworking, adaptable, and hands-on person with a range of practical and people-focused skills.

    • Sailing: I have a full season of sailboat racing experience in the Solent, where I was involved in sail trimming and managing the kite sail. I’m comfortable working as part of a crew, following instructions, and staying calm and focused in challenging conditions.
    • Hospitality & Teamwork: I spent 3 years working in restaurants, developing a strong work ethic, time management, and teamwork skills. I’m used to working in fast-paced environments and providing good service.
    • Hostel Work: I’ve worked in a hostel in Tel Aviv and stayed in many others, so I understand communal living, guest interaction, and keeping shared spaces clean and welcoming.
    • Physical & Outdoor Work: I enjoy staying active and am happy to help with manual tasks such as cleaning, maintenance, cooking, or outdoor work. I’ve completed long-distance hiking (including the Pennine Way), which has built resilience and endurance.
    • Adaptability & Cultural Awareness: Through travel and Workaway experiences across Europe and the Middle East, I’ve become very comfortable adapting to new environments and working with people from different backgrounds.
    • Basic Language Skills: I enjoy learning and using new languages wherever I go, and I pick things up quickly.

I’m reliable, easy-going, and always willing to learn new skills and help wherever needed.

  • What else ...

I really enjoy a wide range of activities, including board games, sports, being in nature, and spending time with animals. I love meeting new people, sharing a laugh, and enjoying good food, especially trying new dishes from different cultures. I’m also a big fan of music and would love to explore any local music scenes or events during my stay.

I’m hoping to move abroad soon, and I see Workaway as a great step towards that goal—giving me the chance to experience new environments and ways of life.

I’m an open and approachable person, so please feel free to ask me anything, it's easy to miss things when writing about yourself!

    Thank you
