  • Description

Hi! I’m a university student from the UK, studying Chemistry. I’d say I’m quite calm, curious, and respectful. I really enjoy travelling, meeting new people, being outdoors, and getting a proper feel for everyday life in a place rather than just passing through as a tourist.

One of the main reasons I’ve joined Workaway is to improve my French. I studied French until I was 18 and would say I’m around intermediate level. I can have everyday conversations, although I may need a day or two to warm up! During my stay, I’d love to speak mostly French, and I’d be very happy for people to correct me. I’ve always liked the idea that learning a language lets you understand a culture in a different way, and I’d really like to become more confident and natural when speaking. I’d also love to live in Switzerland one day, so French is a language I want to keep building on.

I’m especially interested in staying with a French-speaking family and helping with children, animals, the house, and the garden. I have experience with children through tutoring and coaching at summer camps, and I am safeguarding and first aid trained. I’d be happy to help with homework, games, creative activities, English practice, outdoor activities, or even simple science experiments like growing crystals if the children were interested. I also have a dog at home, so I’m very happy around animals and enjoy going on walks.

I’m happy to help with cleaning, laundry, baking, gardening, dog walking, and general household tasks. Outside university, I enjoy hiking, baking, photography, DIY projects, and playing sports, although I can’t promise I’m especially good at all of them! I live in London, so I’m hoping to experience a slightly slower pace of life, ideally somewhere with nature, countryside, coast, mountains, or a strong local community rather than a big city.

When I travel, I like to have a rough plan, but I’m also flexible and happy to see where the day goes. I’m tidy and respectful, and I understand that staying with a host means becoming part of their home and routine. I don’t have any dietary requirements. I also don’t have a driving licence, but I’m very happy walking, cycling, and using public transport.

I’m hoping to find a welcoming family where I can be useful, practise French every day, and enjoy a genuine cultural exchange.

  • More details about your skills

Childcare and working with children - I have experience of working with children from ages 5-16 both in working on summer camps and in tutoring. The summer camps mean I am happy to help with games, sports and creative activities while the tutoring experience allows me to help with homework and English practice.

Safeguarding and First Aid - Since I have worked with children before I have been safeguarding trained and as the Health and Safety officer for my university Ice Hockey club I am first aid trained and have dealt with injuries before.

Languages - I am a native English speaker and intermediate at French so would be happy to teach English.

Pets - I have a dog at home so am comfortable with feeding and general animal care. I do enjoy walking dogs too.

Household help - I am happy to help with cleaning, laundry, tidying, washing up, baking and cooking simple meals, and other everyday household tasks.

Gardening and Outdoor help - I enjoy being outdoors and would be happy to help do watering, weeding, and other general garden maintenance.

  • What else ...

I also enjoy more relaxed activities like card games and enjoy walking around areas to explore them and would be happy to be included in family life, learning about your routines, traditions and anything you think is worth seeing in your local area.

At the same time I am also independent and do not need to be entertained all the time and can take a step back when needed.
