  • Description

My husband and I recently retired. Traveling brings us joy, especially when we have the opportunity to immerse ourselves in local culture. Through the years we have hosted international exchange students, mostly through Rotary. We continue to enjoy contact with our exchange students leaning how they have grown into adulthood, and what they are doing.

For personal enjoyment I like being involved in the local community and doing service. I am an avid knitter, and enjoy exploring cooking dishes from other countries and spices used. I also enjoy sewing projects for home improvement like making pillows or slip covers.

We have raised twin daughters and a son; and are now proud grandparents of a grandson. Our home has always been a busy hub with friends and family, and a range of pets from cats, guinea pigs and chickens. With the passing of our last two kitties at the age of 19 and 20, I now volunteer to foster cats helping them to socialize and be ready for their forever home.

I retired from a career in non profit management; most recently as Executive Director of Pacific Northwest District of Kiwanis. (Kiwanis is an international service organization). What I am looking for in a Workaway experience, is an opportunity to live with a family and assist in supporting the family in ways they need. Whether it be cooking, sewing, meal planning, event planning, fix it things or whatever. I'm up to the task.

In our past workaway experiences, I assisted the owner with her cooking classes, I canned produce from the garden, prepared family meals, mended clothing, made pillow and couch covers, harvested grapes and olives, and light housekeeping. My husband, the professional handyman, built a sauna from a kit, made shutters for an old wooden barn, put in a wall and sliding door for farm equipment creating an extra room from recycling.
