  • Description

Hi! I'm Tegan, travelling with my girlfriend Marcella, and we're exploring New Zealand until the end of Feb 2027. I have always wanted to visit New Zealand, but coming from the UK, I had to go for long enough to make the 30+ hour plane journey worth it!! So we've now quit our jobs and made the big move. We're hoping to see as much of the country as we can in our travels, so any recommendations are gratefully received.

Tegan: I love open water swimming, creative writing, reading long fantasy books and making everything I can into Excel spreadsheets. I could talk for England, and love hearing other people's experiences. I also have a degree in Genetics and will happily natter about biology for hours. My career background is in access to justice and social change, and I'm passionate about the environment (because all those things are connected!). I hope to use this year to make some unforgettable memories, and also finish my creative writing passion project.

I've not done workaways before, but I've got experience volunteering for hostels, forestry trusts, tutoring, and working as a cleaner/maintenance person including working abroad.

Marcella: I am an avid cook and keen linguist. My degree in Modern Languages means I've had the chance to live abroad before, though I'm new to workaways. I love a games night (either board or video games will do!), and am also a pro pub quiz host back home, but I'll try not to bore you with useless trivia! Career-wise, I like to collect experience like one might collect vintage stamps, so my background is quite varied. I've worked in tourism, finance, and TV, to name just a few industries! I'm always eager to add new experiences to my collection, and would love to spend some time this year learning new, unique skills.

Tegan: I speak English. I'm great with finances, data analysis, anything that needs making into a spreadsheet. I have a lot of experience working with/ looking after children and also elderly people, and have great communication skills including in professional outgoing comms and social media. I am a fantastic organiser and am fairly certain I could start a successful business making take-home scavenger hunts xD. I'm computer-savvy, I love building furniture, and have a can-do attitude towards DIY projects. I can also sew (better at hand-sewing than with a sewing machine though!)

Marcella: I speak English and Italian fluently, and have a degree in French and Spanish. I have experience tutoring Italian and French, and interpreting across all languages. With Italian parents, it should come as no surprise that I love cooking (I even used to have an Instagram account for my food!). My dad is a chef, and while I can't pretend to be quite at his level, I do have years of experience in the kitchen and am more than happy to cook a hearty meal. I also have over 20 years of experience caring for the elderly.

I'm tech-savvy, with a particular interest in computer hardware. I'm a practical person who loves getting stuck in and tackling a problem head-on, and I know my way around basic DIY and general maintenance tasks. Finally, I have extensive professional experience in admin work. So whether there's a stack of paperwork waiting to be organised, or messages piling up in your inbox, or any other bits and bobs you just haven't gotten round to, I'm happy to help!
