Hi! I’m Beatrice, a caring, gentle 23 year old with a deep love for animals and outdoor life.

I grew up in busy London, and ever since I was little have found myself looking for any opportunity to be surrounded by nature and four-legged friends. I’m happiest in places that feel genuine and wholesome, especially if there are animals there - I love getting to know their different personalities and ways of communicating, and there’s something really special to me about building trust and connection with them (especially rescues).
I really enjoy going on hikes and rock climbing in the mountains in Italy, which I've always done. Taking Chilli (my dog) for long walks there is my favourite thing to do, especially as there's always lots of time for exhausted cuddles after. I also enjoy photography, listening to music, tennis, cycling, exploring new places with my camera and disconnecting from screens and the internet.

I’m a friendly, dedicated, open-minded person who’s always happy to help wherever needed and eager to learn new things. I’ve found I have endless energy when working around animals, as it really never feels like “work” - whether it’s physical outdoor work, cleaning, daily routine tasks, or hands on animal care … I’m eager to do it!

I joined Workaway to look for a meaningful experience and somewhere I can settle into and contribute to, rather than pass through. Hopefully a place with a sense of community and purpose, where I can be around what makes me happiest: connection with people, animals and nature.

I’m open-minded, reliable and a quick learner, especially when I genuinely care about the spaces I’m in. I’m comfortable spending long periods outdoors in rural areas (I grew up spending months at a time in rural Italy). I enjoy physically active activities like hiking, rock climbing, cycling and prefer working hands-on rather than sitting still.

My experience with animals: I have lots of experience through caring for and training my own dog from a puppy (from feeding/ exercising to socialisation and understanding behaviour signs). I grew up caring for rabbits and have a calm, gentle energy with animals that need it. I’ve also spent time around horses from a younger age and have some experience with grooming, tacking up, leading and mucking out. I’m currently volunteering at a dog rescue foundation and learnt how to build up trust with reactive, nervous dogs.

Previous work: I’ve worked as a support worker for children with severe disabilities (some who were non-verbal). I have good emotional awareness and practiced giving them a sense of comfort and safety, and dealing with responsibility independently
I’ve also worked in hospitality, am good at communicating clearly and work well as part of a team.

I’m fluent in both English and Italian and travelling often between the two countries has made me adaptable and comfortable in different environments and around different people.

I’m eager to learn new skills and would especially like to improve on my gardening!

What else ...

I love taking photos, music and journalling. I'm drawn to off-grid environments and shy away from loud cities.

I'd love to return to Uni and continue studying psychology in the next years - I'm interested in social and developmental psychology, mostly learning about why we act the way we do towards each other and the outside world. I'm also really interested in the bond you can form with animals and how healing that can be. I know it certainly has been for me :)

It’s hard to put into words how grateful I am to Annie and what an unforgettable experience my time at Star Mountain was. It was my first workaway and I couldn’t have found a better place to go.

It’s so inspiring to see … read more the hard work, dedication and love she’s put into this sanctuary and it really opened my eyes to the way animals deserve to be treated.

The sanctuary itself is really beautiful and it’s lovely to see the large pigs, donkeys, horses, and sheep roaming free, and the cats, who adorably all have their own favourite spot to hang out in. The guest house where the volunteers stay in is just a short walk up the hill. We had everything we could possibly need - food, bedding, cleaning supplies etc. - and lovely rooms.

Annie goes above and beyond for us volunteers and hugely cares about us having a safe environment and caring vibe. I built some beautiful friendships with the other volunteers there, really felt at home and part of a family (‘chef Lumini’s’ vegan crepe’s, movie nights with the baby kittens using us to do parkour and late nights on the balcony with willow and my Ruby).

The work is very rewarding, and I enjoyed every part of working with the rescued animals. I was given specific tasks as my “jobs” which changed over my two and a half months there.
Even horse poop picking had it’s fun moments with Chico coming to supervise and Merlin being a good little wheelbarrow assistant. We had many laughs at the container with Belota and Ziggy … the pigs never making a morning hay round boring.

I got to spend so much time with my cuddle bug Ruby who I still hugely miss. Did some training with Bowie, looked after Donnie’s leg, feed and groomed the donkeys and little Edgar, all whom I got very attached to, did the Dotty and Daisy enclosure after their comical nighttime escape. I felt like I got to spend time with every animal and it was fulfilling to help out wherever I could.
Evening dog walks with the Charlie and Lexi gang are a must-mention, the breathtaking sunsets, blackberry picking, Dalma’s end of walk Dalma dip and chats with Annie and the other volunteers.

Annie has so much knowledge about animals and how they should be properly cared for and was always happy to share it. Her connection with the animals and how well she understands them is something I really look up to and learnt from.

I was going through a rough patch in my life when I arrived, and it has been so healing working there. I know I wouldn’t be in the place I am now if it wasn’t for Annie and all the animals. There is something truly special about Star Mountain.

Thank you Annie and Adam for everything. I can’t wait to be back. ❤️
