  • Description

I’m an artist, writer, mother and grandmother, and I’m at a really interesting stage of my life where I’m consciously exploring different ways of living, creating and connecting with others.

Creativity is a central part of who I am. I love making art, writing, gardening, nature, being outdoors, good conversation and discovering new ideas and perspectives. I’m happiest when life has room for both connection and quiet — contributing and sharing with others, while also having space to create, reflect and enjoy the simple things around me.

Family is very important to me and I love spending time with my children and grandchildren. I enjoy being with children, creating and making things together, cooking, being outdoors and sharing ordinary everyday life.

I’m particularly interested in intentional living and different ways people create home, community and meaningful lives together. Rather than having one fixed idea of what that should look like, I’m curious to experience different ways of living firsthand — meeting people I may not otherwise meet, learning how others live, contributing what I can, and discovering what resonates with me along the way.

I value kindness, openness, individuality, mutual respect and clear communication. At this stage of my life I’m also learning the value of balance and living at a sustainable pace — giving genuinely to the people and things I care about while also making room for my own wellbeing, creativity, family and projects.

I’ve lived in Australia since I was 11, although I was born in England, and Australia is very much home. I’m beginning my Workaway experience close to home, but I’m open and curious about where this doorway might eventually lead.

More details about my language interests
I’m particularly interested in learning Greek because I have family in Greece and would love to be able to communicate more easily and participate more fully when I’m there. I don’t currently speak Greek, but I’d enjoy learning gently through everyday conversation, repetition and shared experiences. For me, learning Greek would be another way of connecting with family, place and culture.

  • More details about your skills

I have a broad mix of practical, creative and people skills developed through work, family life, business and my own interests.

I’m practical and resourceful and enjoy contributing to everyday life — cooking, gardening, organising, helping with projects, creating and maintaining welcoming spaces, and generally noticing what needs doing and finding a sensible way to help.

Creativity is an important part of my life. I make art, write, enjoy photography and visual design, and love experimenting with materials, ideas and hands-on projects. I particularly enjoy opportunities where I can learn new creative or practical skills from other people as well as contribute my own.

I have experience in business and working with people, including communication, organisation, problem-solving and adapting when circumstances change. I’m comfortable taking responsibility for something I’ve agreed to do, but I also value clear communication and mutually understood expectations.

Gardening, nature, food, homes and the different ways people create their everyday lives all interest me. I enjoy learning by doing and would love opportunities to develop skills connected with growing food, sustainable or intentional living, creative projects, community life and other practical ways of living.

I’m a mother and grandmother and am comfortable around children and families, and I also have previous experience in disability support and caring roles. Those experiences have given me patience, adaptability and an appreciation for individual differences, although care work is not the particular focus of what I’m hoping to explore through Workaway.

More than anything, I bring curiosity, warmth, practical common sense and a willingness to learn. I’m interested in exchanges where there is something genuine to contribute and something new for me to experience, discover or learn too.

  • What else ...

I’m naturally curious and love good conversation, discovering new places and hearing about how other people live and what matters to them. I enjoy wandering through markets, galleries and interesting little towns, being near the ocean, spending time in nature, taking photographs and noticing the small details of a place.

I love animals, especially dogs, and would be very happy to find myself sharing everyday life with a dog or other animals along the way. I’m also particularly interested in having the opportunity to spend time around horses and learn more about them.

I’m equally happy sharing a meal and conversation with others or having quiet time to myself with my art, writing, a book or simply pottering around. I enjoy making ordinary things into experiences — cooking together, creating something, exploring somewhere new, working on a garden or project, or sitting outside with a coffee and a good conversation.

I’m particularly interested in intentional and community living and would love opportunities to experience different ways people create a sense of home, community and shared life together. I’m curious about how people contribute, connect and live alongside one another while still respecting each person’s individuality and independence.

I think one of the things I’m most looking forward to through Workaway is meeting people I might never otherwise have met and, for the time I am somewhere, entering a little into the life of that place and its people rather than merely passing through.
