Description
I am a man of 69 years, healthy, fit, energetic and youthfully enthusiastic about life. I am a lifetime learner with current interests in baroque music (Bach), flamenco, philosophy, history (particularly in Spanish history from 711 to 1492) and ideas that shape our world, amongst other things.
My belief is that everything is interesting to some degree and it is that idea that seems to drive me.
I am an atheist by conviction and a vegan by compassion. I am an “animal lover” but currently have no pets because of my lifestyle. I am committed to reducing the use of non-human animals for human ends and in pursuit of that objective, provide significant financial support to a number of animal charities.
I should mention that being vegan should not present problems or dilemmas for potential hosts. I can eat the vegetable components of any meal and, if necessary, can cook for myself.
I find it extremely easy to get on with most people and enjoy intelligent conversation.
I am now (April 2026) finalising the conversion of a short wheelbase van in to a camper van and that will provide my transport and my accommodation as I travel around Spain. I want to spend a large proportion of the rest of my life wandering and wondering.
I hope that during my travels I am able make a contributions, in various ways, to projects that interest me. In return, I would like the opportunity to develop my Spanish language skills (presently at a level of beginner). I am keen to travel and reside in rural environments and am interested in natural history and the flora and fauna.
My working life was spent as a control systems engineer working on systems for internal combustion engines and latterly for electric vehicles.
I am very practical and have the skills necessary to undertake most household DIY tasks (excluding plumbing!) and basic car maintenance. I can cook but I am not “A cook”. I am very happy to turn my hand to anything I think I might be able to contribute to and I sit on the conservatuve side of the Dunning-Kruger concept. My one weakness is my knees; both of which have been replaced, twice. I am completely mobile but heavy work is somewhat beyond me.
I am looking for opportunities to volunteer to help people with projects they are passionate about. Where these projects have limited sleeping accommodation I am happy to sleep in my van.
I don’t “do” social media but am accessible via email, messages and phone calls.
I live in the UK in a small Welsh village called Corris Uchaf in a region called Gwynedd - Post code SY20 - on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park - It is a very beautiful place and I consider myself very lucky to live here. -
