Stephen stayed for two weeks and was really helpful with stacking a lot of firewood, clearing an area where logs had been sawn, collecting up hay and a host of other little jobs. He is a pleasant person to have around, communicative, and he always did the jobs well.

Annaëlle spent part of the fall of 24 with us and we are completely satisfied with the help she provided when she was with us. Always cheerful and very energetic, she was really a treasure. If you have the opportunity to include Anna as a part of your Workaway program consider yourself fortunate and jump at the chance. I hope we have the opportunity to host her again.

Michelle was a true gem. While we enjoy hosting many wonderful guests, some people naturally stand out and Michelle was one of them. She brought a rare balance of maturity, thoughtfulness, and independence, engaging warmly with the community while also respecting space and privacy. She approached every task with care and reliability and contributed positively to the overall atmosphere. Michelle would always be welcome here, and any host who chooses her as a Workawayer would be extremely fortunate.

I feel lucky to have the experience of volunteering at Pensión Santa Elena. The volunteering position is mostly receptionist work, with a little bit of cleaning and inspecting involved. You manage the daily administration, chat with guests, and present yourself as a friendly face. I loved the receptionist role, especially as I became more educated and better able to answer questions. My communication improved as I delivered information, and it was useful, as a young person, to practise professionalism. Also, it was very interesting to see how a hostel is run. What I got in return for my work was very fair. A private room with a hot shower and a big bed; two delicious, big meals every day; free laundry; and some discounted tours. This, and my manager, Fiorella, who looked after me attentively, made me feel very appreciated and safe during my time in Santa Elena. The role itself gave me time to journal about my travels and do some personal administration. And the rest of the staff were lovely to work with. They only speak Spanish, and some guests speak Spanish as their primary language, so it is important that you speak good Spanish. I found it fun to improve my Spanish - I actually left wishing I could have spoken even more. Finally, what can you do in Monteverde? So, so much. In my three weeks, I did: the Monteverde Cloud Forest hikes, Santa Elena Cloud Forest hikes (my personal favourite), El Tigre Waterfalls Hike (huge, beautiful waterfalls), the 100% Aventura Zipline (including the longest zipline in Central America), the Valle Escondido Nature Reserve (nature hikes with a Pacific ocean viewpoint), the Children Eternal's Rainforest Bajo el Tigre (we saw a huge rainbow and monkeys), the Ficus la Raíz (a local tree), the Kinkajou night walk (we saw a sloth!), sunset at Mirador Valle Escondido, and more! I already miss the Monteverde life at this hostel. I thank Danielle for recruiting me for this role.

Neil stayed here for 3 weeks and was most helpful doing many jobs around the place, such as stacking a lot of firewood, tidying up an area where logs had been sawn, collecting hay and a host of other little jobs. He worked well with the other volunteer. He is always very well-mannered, pleasant and curious as to how we do things in this rural environment. Many thanks, Neil. It was a pleasure to have you around. Best of luck with your travels and explorations!

I spent a couple of weeks there and it was a wonderful experience. Being in contact with nature and animals is one of the things I appreciate most, in addition to meeting wonderful people from different nationalities at the volunteers' house. Some of the activities I did were cleaning the animals' enclosures, carrying food, feeding them, etc. If you truly feel a genuine connection with animals, I highly recommend it, as there is a wide variety of animals that need the support of volunteers.

We spent two wonderful weeks at Leo´s place and had such a great experience from beginning to end ! He was incredibly welcoming, he even picked us up from the airport when we arrived and later drived us back to San José, which made our trip so much easier.🤗 The place is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by the jungle, with a stunning river nearby where we loved spending time. We also shared many fun karaoke evenings together — he sings very well and those moments were some of our favorite memories! We met his lovely dog, Omega, who is truly adorable and always around to keep you company ! During our stay, he cooked many delicious traditional Costa Rican dishes for us, which allowed us to discover and enjoy the local cuisine in the best possible way. Our tasks were mainly to clean and tidy up the house, feed the chicken and the dogs. Leo is unique in his kind, and we had an amazing time with him ! We are very grateful for these two weeks, for his generosity and hospitality. We recommend this Workaway to anyone looking for an authentic experience in Costa Rica ! Thank you again Leo it was wonderful ! ✨

ulia stayed with us for about two months. From the very beginning, she showed a warm, open attitude and a genuine willingness to learn and do her best. She built a beautiful rapport with my two children — Lior (7) and Ashira (4). Being creative herself, Julia made her babysitting hours engaging and fun. She taught the kids funky dance routines to perform in the garden, made pirate mini-films with them, cooked together, did origami, and even taught my son how to crochet, to name just a few of her wonderful activities. Julia was also happy to help with the everyday household tasks I needed support with, such as food preparation, hanging out the washing, and keeping the kitchen clean and tidy. Another great quality Julia brought was her independence. While we truly enjoyed our time together — especially our many shared meals — she also made the most of her time in Sydney, confidently connecting with other young travellers and exploring the city on her own. My children and I will miss Julia. With her positive attitude, intelligence, and willingness to learn, I am sure she will be successful in whatever path she chooses. highly recommend her as a workaway

Simon volunteered with us for 2.5 weeks, and we honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. He was amazing help in every area - from gardening to DIY projects - including finishing our outdoor bath and extending the gardens. He works very independently, follows instructions well, and is equally comfortable working on his own or as part of a team. Simon is highly engaged yet naturally quiet, very respectful, and thoughtful in how he shows up. He’s an interesting person to talk with, has traveled extensively, and really understands how to be part of a community while also respecting others’ private time. We also loved having the chance to meet his sister and to go to a few local events together. We were especially happy to meet Simon again during our trip to the North Island, where he happened to be volunteering at another property - a lovely full-circle moment. We feel very fortunate to have met such a fine young man and truly hope to see him again. Simon, you are part of the family now and always welcome back. 💛

Vera joined us for a week on first arriving in NZ. She is a hardworking, thinking and fun person. She came up with new ideas on how to do things. It was lovely to have someone who has worked before with a great work ethic. We had a wine race on while Vera was with us and she helped sail a yacht the length of the Marlborough Sounds with a typical Kiwi party at the end. Thanks Vera, we hope to see you on your way back.

Staying with Felix and Edna was such a warm and memorable experience, and we are truly grateful for their kindness and generosity. Their place is spacious and comfortable, we felt relaxed and enjoyable just looking out of window to their garden with sunrise each day. It’s truly a blessing ! Their 2 yr old little cutie is exceptionally bright and pretty 🥰 curious and eager to learn new things, enjoy having fun all the time! A bit challenging at times but rewarding indeed. Edna and Felix are a couple of top notch and reachable, friendly and caring ❤️ willing to help and like to see you succeed. Another huge advantage to mention is the location — the bus stop is right outside of house, so convenient to get to the city. It’s a perfect place to stay if you want to explore Oslo while still enjoying a calm, home-like environment. Highly recommended to Workawayer who is genuine and sincere, love kids and willing to help out like a member of family. Seize the opportunity to apply while it’s still available for they are so popular!

I had the pleasure of house sitting for Sarah for three weeks in December. First of all, Sarah is the loveliest and was kind enough to welcome me earlier than what we agreed on when I found myself in a pickle. Despite being busy with work, she took the time to show me around during the few days before she left and we had lovely chats about books, travels and much more. The house was lovely, incredibly peaceful with a lovely deck and garden. As for the surroundings: beautiful walks around the house, plus everything you need for food close by. And then there was Kitty. A beautiful three-legged cat that I had the pleasure of looking after. She loves to be scratched behind her ear though in her own terms and absolutely loves spending time on the bean bag outside. In the evening, she would sometimes come and lie on the couch next to me before settling in for the night. I missed her dearly when I left and was absolutely delighted to get to spend time again with her in January (thanks to Sarah coming to my rescue again!) I absolutely recommand house sitting for Sarah if you have the opportunity. You won't regret it.

I stayed with Tessa for a week in January and I had a great time. She instantly made me feel welcomed in her home and treated me like a friend. She took me out with her whenever she could, making me discover places and events I would have probably missed out on otherwise. I loved our conversations, watching Love Island, and I really felt like everything flowed easily between us. On top of it all, she has the loveliest "roommates", Gracie and Handsum, two cats that are super cuddly and friendly. Trust me, you'll miss waking up in the middle of the night with a furball snuggled up against you. As for the work, it is more than a fair bargain with light gardening, cleaning and cooking. I absolutely do recommand her to anyone travelling to Wellington. She lives close to the CBD (a short bus ride and an even shorter car ride), which makes it the perfect place to visit the city and its surroundings.

This farm was really a paradise for me and offered me the much needed break to recharge myself and to reconnect with nature. The area is breathtakingly beautiful and you'll be living and working surrounded by mountains and native forest. Saskia and Pedro are such kind, caring and fair hosts with whom you'll be always sharing laughs and having the most interesting conversations, while sharing delicious and healthy meals (they're great cooks!). I managed to learn so much about various topics during my time here thanks to the knowledge that Saskia and Pedro were always willing to share. Both were also extremely helpful and patient with my Portuguese, which I am really grateful for. The work itself was varied, always interesting and never too tiring. I loved picking up the tomatoes! The other tasks, like painting or working in the garden, were also nice and we always had fun while working (I really loved the last day when we were removing the ivy from the walls!). The free time at the farm will never be boring either, as the surrounding nature invites you to explore it, either on the trails inside the property or outside on walks to nearby waterfalls. The adorable dogs will be more than happy to accompany you on the walks. I miss them so much! I was also really lucky to get to experience forest bathing and breathwork with Saskia, and both are something I am really motivated to continue to do in the future. Thank you one more time, Saskia and Pedro, for the opportunity to stay with you. The Sitio will always be in my heart and I really hope to be able to visit you one day again.

Our 2-week long Stay at the Hostel left us with many good memories and interesting Stories to tell. For the Work Part: We helped Dnyan out in the Indian Restaurant and the Minimart ( Hookah Bar) which are both part of the Hostel. We worked from 5 to 10 and did jobs like mixing drinks, preparing the Hookahs or being a waitress. He was very considerative with giving us shifts that would match our time schedules (so that we could for expample do Tours during the day and then work in the evening) or switching shifts because sometimes the Restaurant was busier than the Minimart, so he told us that we could switch jobs If we'd Like to, so that the work is divided fairly between us two. If you want to practice your Spanish, the other two workers in the Restaurant are Costa Rican and only speak spanish! We were accomodated in a Shared Dorm with more than enough space and very clean. Also the location is fantastic for La Fortuna! We didn't get Food but we could get Naan from the Restaurant every night which was amazing We had great encounters with other guests/volunteers as well as very nice Talks with Dnyan ( a veeeeery good shared indian meal on our last day) and will definitely keep contact! He told us a lot about his own traveles and how he wants to keep the Hostel affordable for other young travelers which we thought is amazing! Honorable mention: He also has two very lovely dogs and a cat and we had the luck to arrive at the Hostel right before he got them so we could watch them settle in :)
