    Description

We, Saskia and Pedro, have been living and running our certified organic farm since 2005. We are commercial growers, producing primarily greenhouse tomatoes, which we sell 100% locally.

Our farm is located in the beautifull mountain region of Serra da Mantiqueira, at around 1.600m above sea level. We are sorrounded by native forests of high altitude tropical rainforest, a very special and fragile ecosystem, which we try to live in equilibrium while commercially producing organic food.

The property has 24 hectares (75 acres), of which 60% is native protected forest.
In the recent years Saskia has acquired certifications as a Forest Theraphy Guide and Breathwork Facilitator, and would be more than happy to share her experiences with you.

Pedro has a masters degree in Horticulture, and is very handy with everything that entails living on a remote farm.

Since 2020, we have also built a couple of wood cabins for weekend stays of visitors, and here and there we receive paying guests on the farm.

Around the farm there are plenty of opportunities for hiking, beautifull trails, mountain waterfalls, great views, or just relaxing by our own crystal clear water creek.

We do have 5 dogs, all very friendly, excited to make new friends, and they are around most of the time, so you need to be ok with dogs.

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We can share more than 20 years of experience and knowledge of commercially growing organic produce. Along with plenty of experience with self-sufficiency (raising animals, preserving produce, etc.), DIY and construction.

Pedro has been homebrewing beer for more than a decade now, and will be more than happy to share his experience and knowledge.

Saskia is always eager to share her passion for nature through forest bathing experiences and to share her knowldge as a breathwork facilitor. She would love to take you on a forest bathing walk or guide you in a breathwork session!

We have both lived, studied and worked in different countries, and are willing to share that knowledge, while also sharing our life experiences and learning from you.
We love to travel, and by doing work-exchange we keep interacting with travelers while still at home.

We live in a remote region, 1 hour from the closest city(bus station), but there is a lively community around us. Despite the remoteness it's a very touristic region, and we are located between two very touristic towns (Monte Verde and Gonçalves).

Close by we have a small village with restaurants and a bakery/small grocery store.

  • Help

    Help

Tasks can include help with vegetable production, like harvesting, weeding, planting, mulching, etc. Tomato harvest is a big part of our job from January until March.
We also always need help with general farm maintenance. These tasks can include: mowing, gardening, repairing, small construction projects, cleaning farm trails through the forest, etc. It's ok if you don't have experience, we will teach you.

During peak season of rentals, we may ask your help with guest change overs, this can include cleaning, doing laundry, and gardening. With this, you will always work together with us.

Pedro always has some fun project in mind, and your presence here may help materialize it!

    Accommodation

We provide a room with a queen bed in our house, with your own bathroom. Or a nice cabin with bathroom and fully equiped kitchen, and a queen bed.

We provide 3 meals a day. We are not vegetarians or vegan, but we are happy to accomodate a vegetarian diet. We cannot accomodate vegans.

We have Starlink internet, with solid wireless at our house and the cabin. So we can accomodate people who work online.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Most of the work we will be doing together, but we also appreciate independent individuals that can work alone, as sometimes we have other commitments.

We ask you to help with meal preparations, and tidying up (this is not considered part of the 5 hours a day).

We want you to feel at home in our house and our farm, this is important for us, but please be respectful.

During your stay if you would like to have more independence to explore our region we recommend that you have your own vehicle as we are remote and there is no public transportation. However this is not essential and we are happy to show you places when our time permits. You can also always join us on vegetable deliveries to Gonçalves. If you arrive by bus we can pick you up at the bus station.

Drug use is not permitted. Please smoke outside. Smoking during work hours is not permitted.
We will share some beers, but please consume alcohol in moderation.
