    Description

We have a 2 acre Forest lot on Nelson island in the Sunshine Coast in British Colombia. We have built a mini cottage and have prospector tents. The land is in progress, we have cut down trees for space and for our solar panels.
We are a couple of French Canadians living in BC. We have 4 teenage children that come here part time.
Nelson island is a beautiful raw nature island surrounded by the beautiful pacific ocean and we have 2 main pure water lakes. The ocean is a very nice temperature for swimming because it’s situated between Vancouver and Vancouver island which makes for much warmer waters in the summer. The lakes can go in the 80’s which is a very comfortable swim. We have many paddle boards and water equipment (snorkeling, inflatables etc..) the island is a northern rainforest with amazing trails with beautiful views all along. We see seals daily and bald eagles and it’s not rare to see whales especially in late summer to early autumn. We have many varieties. Occasionally we might spot a dolphin pod. We love to paddle with the ocean wildlife especially the curious friendly seals. We also have many deer residents on the island and the occasional shy black bear.
In the summer there’s many vacationers and the island is a holiday retreat. We often take boat rides to sandy beaches and other beautiful locations on the Sunshine Coast. We have a small 25 foot boat we can have a picnic on the roof or watch the sunset in the middle of the ocean, where a cool dip is not rare after a few drinks and happy music. We also enjoy making a fire in the evening to sit around and listen to music and have great conversations.
We love meeting new people and making new friends. We also have fun loving neighbours and friends from Quebec who come here in the summer to enjoy our island with us. We speak English and French, but we love meeting people from different backgrounds with different languages we can learn a little. We are also travellers who love to explore different cultures.
Luc is a builder and works in renovating cottages for islanders in the summer and I cook for workers, visiters and our workaways. I am an excellent cook having been raised in the multicultural family ( Québécois, Nova Scotian, Austrian, Lebanese) with restaurant owner parents. I also am knowledgeable in many different kinds of foods from vegetarian to keto and all your hearty homemade dishes, I am a passionate foodie and everyone who loves eating healthy and delectable meals will be happy with us. I make sure of it and can adapt my meals to any restrictions anyone may have.
We are looking for workaways from July 5th to 21 September to work on the land. We need workers able to carry and to move wood around. So people who are strong and physically in shape with a love for nature. We need 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week on your own schedule. The rest of the time is yours for leisure. You will live in a well equiped prospector tent with a mini kitchen for your breakfast that we will provide , and we will cook lunch and dinner. We hope to have 2-3 workaways and we can’t wait to meet you and have a great summer together.

Nelson island is a beautiful unique place on the Sunshine Coast with its own natural habitat. It offers beautiful trails with wildlife sightseeing such as a variety of birds from woodpeckers to bald eagles, deer, the occasional shy black bear( not a dangerous species) and a lot a marine wildlife, fish, starfish, seals, sea lions, whales, dolphins, crabs and many shellfish. If you like fish and sea food you can fish here ( we have fishing gear) and also harvest shellfish like clams and oysters. The Pacific Ocean is a beautiful playground and we have many beaches all around us in a short walking distance. We have paddle boards for ocean and lakes and there’s canoe, rowboats you can use on the lake also. There are 2 amazing pure water lakes near our lot where the water is warm for swimming. The ocean is also suitable for swimming the water gets pretty warm in the summer.
We love to take a boat ride to watch the sunset in the middle of the ocean and we also go to beautiful sandy beaches near our island. You are more than welcomed to join us on these excursions to discover the beauty of the British Colombian Sunshine Coast. This is a place to recharge your batteries and relax in a natural powerful setting, where there are no sounds of the city. Only the song of birds and the ocean.

The job consists of carrying wood mostly, flattening the land, and maybe building a few log bridges. You need to be strong and in good physical shape . You also need to love canadian nature and living in a rustic BC rainforest environment. It is very dry and warm in the summer, making it extremely fun and agréable to water sports and nature fun. We will ask of you for 4-5 hours a day of work, 5 days a week in exchange for room and board. We provide 3 meals a day and snacks and we cook 2 delicious meals lunch and dinner. You will be staying in a well equipped prospector tent and we have a warm shower and a washing machine as well. We have solar panels for energy and a good signal for internet. If you wish, we will take you on hikes, excursions, boat rides and you can use our paddle boards and other water equipment like snorkeling gear and inflatables. You can also join in our evening fires or retreat on your own in your prospector tent as you feel like. We are looking forward to meeting you and having a great summer together.
