Hello! We are Tyson and Kerry, owners of our farm, a market gardening operation located on 4 acres on the edge of town in Caldwell, Kansas. We are a couple who moved in July 2016 from Bay Area, California to this little historic town in the middle of wheat country to get our hands dirty and pursue a life full of experimentation related to sustainable agriculture. We love our new little town and we would love to share our home and good food with fun folks! We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who want a place to stay and an opportunity to experiment with their own ideas, gain experience practicing permaculture and homesteading skills, and help us to improve our land and infrastructure in a way that well integrated with natural systems and this long time farming community.
We are only one year old project and are still working on developing our vision of what this place could be. We would love to benefit from your ideas and comradeship!
Caldwell is a very friendly, supportive rural community. This is a long time farming area that we think is just ripe for additional development of restorative agriculture. We think this would be a perfect opportunity for someone who needs a little rural getaway. Our hope is that you will have some of your time for pursuing your own creative projects, and some time devoted to our project.

Tyson is a talented mechanical engineer with a talent for being able to build anything that you can dream up. He worked for Indian motorcycle and is the owner of Vessel Bikes, a custom electric vehicle design company. Kerry is a biology nerd and loves to discuss ideas about permaculture, restorative land practices, and all things about plants and insects. We would love to give you the opportunity to use our land to experiment with your ideas in the realm of restoration agriculture.
This spring, we can use your help with setting up a seed room, planning and building a greenhouse, designing and building infrastructure for pasture raised poultry, possible mushroom cultivation, food preservation, and research and possibly writing related to an application for a grant from the US Department of Agriculture.
We have a private upstairs bedroom (upstairs) and private bathroom (downstairs) in our house that is available for a single person or a couple. You use our laundry, internet, and kitchen.
We would like to offer two to three basic meals a day with meat served about once a day. We have eggs and vegetables in abundance and usually buy meat from our neighbors.
Caldwell is a fairly isolated small town with a friendly community and surrounding areas to explore. The town is easily seen by bicycle, and surrounding areas accessible best by car. If you made it to Wichita by Plane or Train, we could pick you up and bring you here. Rivers and lakes are near by, with hunting and fishing available if you wish. The town has events every year celebrating its heritage as a historic town of the Wild West, and the town is rich with historical buildings and information about its past.
Here at the farm, we don't have a rigid schedule or rules. We like to work hard and enjoy our days as much as possible while feeling accomplished at the same time. We can offer several opportunities of after hours activities such as beer brewing and welding practice. We enjoy listening to and playing good music, and sometimes just like to relax and watch a movie or two. We love good food, good coffee, good beer and want to find people that can enjoy life with us.
