Description
Hola!
I am trying to set up self-sufficient way of life based on permaculture and practical principles. I started a big herb garden a few years ago, with the intention of selling herbal infusions and mixes. I still have the garden, but at the moment no intention of selling anything. It´s just my home garden/hobby for now. I also have a vegetable garden and am starting a food forest/forest area.
A while back I had to start working online to make money and because of that I didn´t have enough time for volunteers or the garden. Now I am reconnecting with the land and the garden and could use a hand: mowing, weeding, pruning, harvesting, etc. Especially in the period from late march to april 25th and from may 25th to june 25th.
I am rethinking the use of the land, based on my experiences in the last few years. Everything in Asturias grows rapidly, so low maintenance, perennial plants and trees are a much better idea then annual vegetables. I am also rethinking how to make money with the land and how to work together with others who like the self-sufficient life.
I have renovated the house and it is nearly finished. I have a lovely and smart dog that gets bored and loves walk and 2 cats that hunt mice. The chicken coop and run need some work, before I can get some new chickens. There is also lots of wildlife around. Aside from the birds, birds of prey and wild boar and deer, I have also seen martens, badgers, pheasants and foxes.
You are most welcome to come and stay with me and share my life and my dreams for a while. I would love to hear about your dreams, ideas and experiences. I did a lot of volunteerwork in France and Spain before landing here and I loved the experience.
Well, I hope that gives you an idea! Please contact me with any questions and I hope to see you soon!
Just to be really clear this is only a cultural exchange and all help is limited to my personal home and garden. There are no business-related tasks as my garden and home are not a business and have no business purpose.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
First of all you get to experience Asturias and (if I do say so myself) one of the most beautiful parts of Asturias at that! Second, life in a rural Asturian village. Furthermore you can learn about and contribute to gardening, landscaping, improving soil, permaculture, herbs, fruit trees, forestry, construction work, etc.
And last but not least we can help each other with languages and learning about different cultures and habits. And you can meet my neighbors and friends, who have different nationalities.
Help
We will work around 5 days, 4 hours a day or vice versa. This depends on the weather, how tough the work is and our energy levels. There is a lot of gardening tasks. Making paths, preparing beds, weeding, mowing, sowing, planting, watering, etc. And of course the never boring magic of watching things grow! You might sometimes do tasks alone, as I also have to make money, but I´d rather be with you in the garden!
For length of visit I prefer a stay of about 7 to 10 days.

Accommodation
I have a panera/horreo (barn on feet) where I have placed 2 tentrooms for volunteers so you have your own space, with good matresses and duvets. I live in the house. Bathroom and kitchen are shared, in the house. I also have a great terrace!
I have spent one whole summer living in the panera and it´s lovely and quiet.
Food!
We'll be eating lots of veggies, but also some meat and fish and dairy. Organic as much as possible, but that is mostly a budgetary question for now. Please let me know if you have dietary needs.
What else ...
Time off is yours to do with as you please. You can sleep, lay in the sun, read, go for walks (if you take my dog he will love you) or join me and my dog on our walks. You don't mind silence or spending time by yourself. I like to go to the beach or mountains when I can and you´re welcome to tag along!
If you have a car, that is great, as it gives you more freedom (to go to the coast, visit the Picos, Oviedo or Gijon), but if you are travelling by public transport I can pick you up in Villaviciosa. I'll go into town at least once a week and you can join to do some shopping if you want. There´s also a bus to and from Villaviciosa once a week, on market day.
