  • Description

I can host in Staden from Sunday 20:00 (8PM) till Thursday 14:00 (2PM) and in Ostend the rest of the week. You can come with me from one to the other if you want to stay longer.

My great-grandparents bought this property after WWI, near the frontline in Ieper (Ypres) where land was cheap. My grandparents turned it into a chicken breeding farm, and when my parents inherited it, they used the land to keep deer and grow walnut trees and poplars for firewood. Every year in October, we slaughter a deer and harvest thousands of walnuts, far more than we know what to do with. We need help with cracking walnuts, and in return you can take some with you, as we have far too many to either crack or eat ourselves. How much you work is up to you.

Langemarkstraat 16 8840 Vijfwegen, Staden (across "CITROËN", near tiny church)

    Public transport:
Bus 40 from train station Ieper or Torhout, stop at "Westrozebeke Vijfwegen" or bus 30 from Roeselare to "Staden Reke" 1km away (no sidewalk, wear lights for cars!). Trains stopping in Torhout and Roeselare go to Kortrijk. For last connection through Torhout, take train at 18:38 in Bruges. For last connection through Roeselare, take train at 20:48 in Bruges.

    From Calais:
    Take the A16 towards Dunkirk,
just past Veurne, take the N330 to Diksmuide,
just past Diksmuide, at the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the N301 to Houthulst,
just past Houthulst, go towards Staden and look for the CITROËN car shop on your left.
    From Lille:
On the E17 towards Kortrijk, take the E403 towards Brugge (Bruges), take the exit towards Roeselare, and look (!) for a "Staden" sign left across one of the crossroads (the 10th). In Staden, go towards Ieper, and go straight on until just past a tiny church at a crossroads.

From Kortemark, follow the trail next to the train station. From Ieper or Diksmuide, cycle along the canal until you see a wooden bridge, then follow the trail. When you see a radio tower, look for a tiny church.
