Description
We are a small family living on a sheep farm on a small island called Karlsøya in the north of Norway. There are 54 sheep, 26 chicken, 1 dog and 1 cat. We are a family of four, me(Tyra), my partner(Tore-Petter) and our 2 kids, Silas(3yrs) and Sofus(1yr). One of us travels with the ferry almost every day to take Silas and Sofus to kindergarten. Other then that we are working with fixing up the barn and the place surrounding.
We have been living at the farm for 5 years and there is a lot to fix! We love to be with the animals and growing vegetables etc. We are happy people who like to live active lives. Also with the kids there is always action! Karlsøya where we live is a place with positive and social community build up by the people living there. Every summer we have an art and music festival. Usually 200-300 people visits the festival.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
The island we live in is called Karlsøya and there are only 40 others living there. There is one shop and a "common-house" where we have social gatherings. The island is a beautiful little pearl in the middle of the ocean surrounded by majestic mountains and nature. We grow and make a lot of our food locally and try as best we can to live sustainably.
We have to small kids and life is never boring!
Because of where and how we live we think it is a perfect place to get to know more about Norwegian culture. We live very close to nature(you couldn't get any closer), both to the sea and to the mountain.
We have a small boat so its possible to go fishing and the island is a great place for hiking.
We are also personally very interested in traditional ways of making, growing, harvesting and refining food. We are happy to share and to have workshops, especially with sheep-meat. Sometime during the winter we also butcher older sheep and we try to use everything from she slaughter, also the skin and the entrails.
Help
You wont be helping with any tasks related to the farm business, but we have a big garden and several tasks around the house where we need help.
Also there is a local community house used for the festival in the summer, where we go to help out making food, cleaning etc. and we would love to have you join us.
We think that communication is key for you to have a good stay and for us to have a positive experience with visitors. We will try to have an open, ongoing communication at all time. We want to have help with things when you want to help, and we want our visitors to do the tasks that they are interested in or want to do in any way.
Because of the very different seasons in Norway the tasks and the days will be very different depending on when you come. And there is definitely more to do in the summer! Even thought we dont want any help with the farm or the sheep we understand the interest some might have and the excitement about learning to know animals so we welcome you to come with us when we are feeding or doing other things with the animals.
More specific tasks can be building gapahuk, cutting grass, fencing, fixing stuff, making food, cleaning the house, setting beds for non paying guests, digging, planting trees, carry stones etc. In the winter its more stuff inside, but also cleaning snow and doing things together in the festival house(like cleaning, making food etc.)
