  • Description

We are a guesthouse located on the beautiful island of Zamami in the Kerama shoto national marine park in Okinawa. We are looking for fun outgoing people to work at our guesthouse. Zamami is a small island located off the coast of Naha in Okinawa prefecture. You can access our island only by ferry leaving from Tomari port in Naha. There are two boats servicing the island. The fast boat (queen zamami) takes 50 minutes and the slow boat (ferry zammami 3) takes 2 hours. We receive quite a lot of tourists and it can get quite busy in the summer. The ocean is incredibly beautiful and we get many divers to experience the coral reefs, mantas, sea turtles, whales in winter and spring, and over 50 meter visibility water. I am a dive master and my wife is a rescue diver we both love the ocean and spend as much time outdoors enjoying the island as possible. We can give you all the best tips such as where to snorkel with sharks and even see sleeping sharks, swim with sea turtles, watch the baby turtles hatch and run into the ocean etc...

The work expected of our workawayers is to help out cleaning, changing beds, checking in guests, sometimes babysitting our adorable son Huxley, hanging out and talking with guests sometimes some outdoor work but not very often as well as helping out in our pizza and burger shop. We make all our own bread for the pizza and hamburgers everyday so if your interested in learning about some kitchen preparation that would be awesome!

Our island is very small, only 500 people but in the summer there are many tourists. In the off season we struggle to find enough hours for you to work but in the summer you will be expected to work 4-5 hours a day in exchange for food and accommodation. The work is a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the evening with your afternoons free to spend at the beach or doing whatever you want. We prefer people to stay at least a month but can be flexible in people staying shorter depending on the current staffing.

    About a wage:
We offer a wage. This wage is offset by part of the cost of the accommodation and the food offered depending on local labour laws. However we need minimum of 3 weeks stay.

If you are not a Japanese citizen and if you want to work for a fee, in Japan you need "working holiday visa" or student visa, spouse visa .

Working holiday target countries are as follows:
Australia, Argentina, Austria , Denmark, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Korea, New Zealand, Norway,Taiwan, Hong Kong (SAR), Ireland, Slovakia, Poland, Portugal, Hungary, Slovakia, Spain, and the United Kingdom who are between the ages of 18 and 30 can apply for a working holiday visa in the Japan 🇯🇵 embassy or consulate unusually located in the country of your passport .

About days off. Because you can only access the island by ferry there are many days where the ferry does not run due to bad sea conditions. These will be your days off. Sometimes the ferries can stop for up to 10 days during typhoon season so as you can imagine when the boats are running everyone on the island including us are working hard.

    About tourist visa
Unfortunately, but according to current Japanese law it is prohibited for those who came by sightseeing visa to work and get wage.

If you are interested in working with us, please provide us with the following information so we can understand you better. Please copy and paste the below questions and answer them.

1)Your related skills, abilities, and interests.

    2)Previous work and/or workawayer experiences.

    3) Your dates available to volunteer and intended length of stay

    4) Please tell me about the type, length and expiration date of VISA you have

5)Do you have travel / health insurance

6)How are your Japanese and English abilities

    7) Can you cook

8)You may have to share a room with another staff member and in the very rare circumstance you may have to spend a night or two in the customers dormitory. Is this okay for you?

Helpers who can speak both Japanese and English will be especially welcomed.
    Looking forward to meet you!!
