HOST IS LOVELY, THE WORK IS PERFECT FOR AN EAGER EXTROVERTED COUPLE BUT BE WARNED OF THE HOSTS FATHER
My wife and I stayed for 2 months. We met our host Luci and she was lovely, her brother Thomas too. There is plenty of outdoor and indoor restoration work to do. It's a lovely setting close to the border, a genuinely beautiful estate, with all
… read more amenities within a 15 minute drive radius, oh and a local Saturday market just a short walk down the road! Plenty of local historical sites and heritage to learn, sadly my wife and I didn't experience too much of this because we visited when the weather didn't allow too well in November and December. We had fun making timelapses and photographing our work in the stableyard home she wants converted. Because she spends most of her time in Spain, she would try to check in once a week to sort out your food allowance, material expenses and see general progress. The last few weeks of our stay was without wifi due to Storm Darragh taking trees down around the property so communication with Luci was a little more difficult but she has since invested in starlink with high speeds. Great for digital nomads or netflix lovers alike.
BE WARNED:
Throughout our entire experience, the hosts father Vere: continually put down our efforts, mocked our timetables, insulted my wife and I, demanded us to do things without politely asking, questioned everything we did, would ask for advice but then always go against it, insulted our more introverted relationship, made racist and sexist jokes, and never spoke to my black wife. Threatened to wake my wife when i had taken up her working hours that day due to her health conditions involving nerve pain. We tried our best to avoid him but be polite, despite the lack of reciprocation. Cherry on top, after an argument just a couple days before leaving, where i was on a time crunch to finish painting their sunroom, a task we had dedicated weeks to already and had wanted to finish before leaving. Vere demanded i stop and help him clean some rooms, i had explained the situation and declined, he then told me it had to be done within the hour and simply left. He returned later to insult my wife and I, I said i was not having this conversation and had openly set a boundary saying we will not be disrespected and i had already explained my reasons. He asked for reasons why and i simply said i am not having this conversation as you are incapable of understanding, i am leaving the room. He told me to freak off as i walked away and then i merely repeated the comment back. The next morning we wake up to my car with a screw in the side of one of our tires, perfectly in the side, no dirt or muck around it, and a good three inches away from the tread. Take that as you will. Mentioned it to Luci the next morning and she hurriedly offered to pay for it.
We voiced our thoughts and feelings regarding Vere to our host Luci on several occasions prior and were informed she would have a chat and that she put it down to his case of "old man syndrome". We don't believe Luci had this chat.
An extroverted couple may be more suitable to Vere, but i believe anyone can get on with Luci. I'm sure Luci will be saddened by our review, but when my wife is in fear of her safety and stays up until 3/4am several days in a row because of her father, I hope it changes her perspective.Feedback
